My daughter has slept in the bassinet part of the playpen for the first 8 weeks now that she is sleeping through the night I want to put her in the crib but she always cries until I put her in the bassinet (playpen). Why does she do this? What can I do? My mom said it is because she is used to the small space of the playpen and then she is getting moved to a bigger space and doesnt like it. Is that true?

I do swaddle her.

This is a very stressful time for me because I cant be up all night with her because I am 14 and I am still going to school. So I always give in and put her in the bassinet.

It's so hard to transition to that crib. For you and her. Just keep at it. My kids took three nights of me putting them in the crib, walking out, waiting 5 minutes, going back in and patting their bellies (no words), leaving for another 10 minutes, repeat. It usually took 20 minutes for three nights, and then nothing.....the key is to let them know you are there for them, but do not verbally communicate. Good luck:)

No one likes change, and neither does a baby. She was in the confines of your womb not that long ago and likes the secure feel of a small space. If the bassinet is still big enough for her, and the mattress is adequate for support, leave her in it for now, maybe using the crib for naps to get her used to it. Try rocking her to sleep before putting her down.

Yes it's true. Been there.

Put bumper pads in the playpen so it appears smaller. You can also put the bassinet IN the playpen for awhile til she gets used to looking out from it and then one day just try her in the playpen. That's what we did and it worked perfectly.

Try putting her in the crib first for a nap during the day, stay with her and reassure her that it is okay. It may take awhile but eventually she want to be in the bigger space.

Try swaddling her and see if you can get some soothing sounds to play when she's falling asleep.

She may just need the closeness of the bassinet feeling.

That's very likely. You could try swaddling her more closely to see if that helps. They also have these baby positioner things that keep the baby in one place. She might like that. Good luck! Just keep trying. She'll get used to it. I started my daughter out in her crib just in case that might happen!
