It depends, I usually look at the screen. But sometimes I look at the keys, if its a word I can't spell or if its some keys I don't use much. At work sometimes I am looking at paper work while I type and not looking at the screen or keys, thats usually when I make a real mess of what I type lol.

Smile, sometimes I can type without looking at the keys and other times I have to look.
I am self taught as to how to type. I learned when I was doing my undergraduate work and my masters work as papers had to the typed in A.P.A. format without exceptions.
I also have difficulty hearing over a regular voice phone so I use a TTY which requires that one types his response and this has been going on since 1980.
If I don't think about what I am typing I do better than if I do, smile.

I don't need to look at the keys or the screen. There are raised parts of the 'F' and 'J' key that let me know my fingers are in the right position. I don't need to look at the screen, because I know what I'm typing and can type 100 wpm.

lol... I learned how to type without looking at the keys when I started using a computer around 12-13 years of age :D
It just needs some practice :D

Just read someone else's answer... my letters are faded away too :D:D:D cz I had this laptop for over 6 years...

Both. After taking a computer class 2 years ago, I don't trust myself to correctly spell, if I don't look at the keys.

The keys for sure. Sometimes I have typed several lines , only to find nothing was there!
