ok, we don't have a dress code at our school, but a lot of people think we should so other people won't get picked on because they can't afford the popular clothes, but i think that's their problem not ours.

like at my school people will look down at you, if you don't have hollister, american eagle, aero, abercrombie, and other expensive stores, and it's mostly girls but and it's the boys too. i mean i feel sorry for those people who are unforunate and don't have money, but having uniforms takes style away from people who actually afford or care about what they look like

Be prepared for a lot of sick answers from the men...I bet this question will really get some of them going!
Uniform is a good idea; it creates a sense of community and belonging; it usually looks smart and it takes away the hassle and stress of choosing what to wear on a daily basis. Your teen years are pretty hard going anyway; without being singled out for lack of fashion sense. Lol! Plus you won't get very far in life looking down your nose at others so sort your attitude out, "their problem not ours"....seriously? you can't be for real; if you are I pity you

I use to be against school uniforms. We didn't have them when I went to school and my children didn't have them. My grandchildren do. After giving it better thought, I realized, when I was in school and when my kids were in school, there was always a problem with kids not sticking to the dress codes. There have been no problems with my grandchildrens schools. So, this is what has changed my mind about being against the uniforms.
I disagree with you that, "The kids who can't afford popular clothes, is their problem". It's not their fault that they cannot be as fortunate as most. Nor is it their parents fault, (not all the time any way). They do the best they can. School and studies can be stressful enough without the ridicule or embarrassment of not being dressed up to date by people with an attitude. This is another reason uniforms is a wonderful idea! This makes every one equal as far as dress goes.
ADDITION:
Let's hope you don't pick a career that inquires wearing a uniform, such as a nurse or policewoman or firefighter. My goodness it would be just terrible that you couldn't express your individualism. Get a grip girl. You can express yourself at school dances and special events, you can express yourself on week-ends. Oh, and another thought. Our service men and women wear uniforms. Think about it... Every career choice I have mentioned here is people of good quality and does good for our benefit and country. They express themselves very well in uniform.

Okay well theres the pros and cons of uniforms.
The bad thing about having uniforms in school is that, like you said, you can't express yourself. And in some cases they make you tuck in your shirts. Which makes it look nerdy. I had to wear uniform during junior high.
The good thing about uniforms is that you waste less time in the morning finding out what to wear. And you waste less money on catching up with the fashionable trends, since some of us don't wanna be seen with the same clothes twice.
And your right, it's not YOUR FAULT they can't afford fashionable clothes. But stop and think for a minute, imagine what the poor students are going through in their lives, it's enough that they're being picked at, at school. They have enough problems already. Now I'm not poor, but sometimes we just gotta stop and think about others and not be selfish.
So maybe it's not a bad idea if the schools decides to get a uniform policy. If you don't want to wear uniforms then just get your parents to sign a wavier.

No offense why are you asking when you have already made up your mind?
I live in Australia and go to a private school so we wear uniforms and no matter how much we bag them out its great cause there is equality. Even in state school you have your polo t-shirt and you can wear whatever bottoms (with in reason) that u want so there is still that expression of your personality and freedom and all that jazz and its more equal. But maybe you should ask yourself if the only way you know how to express yourself is through your clothes then you should start developing your personality, Your clothes don't make who you are your thoughts, and stuff like that do. And at the moment your thoughts kinda sound selfish and shallow
maybe you should work on that

Personally, I think they're a good idea. I know you kids don't like the idea, but I do think they kind of make things more even. You kids tend to be really mean to the ones that don't fit in. Maybe they don't have much fashion sense, or their parents are poor, or whatever the reason may be, but those kids are singled out, and ridiculed. For those kids, and probably their parents, it can be pretty traumatic. When you're in school, it's the whole world, and they are sometimes scarred for life. When I was in school, I was kinda mean too. As an adult, I do regret some of the things I said and did when I was a kid. Just put yourself in that person's place...can you imagine how it would feel to walk in their shoes for a day? And most of the time, it's really out of the kid's control. The next time you're making fun of someone, think about it. What if that were your little sister? Anyway, off the soap box! Have a good school year, and be happy that you don't have to wear uniforms!

I think they are both good and bad.
The bad part about wearing them is that you don't get to express your individuality and even though everyone is wearing the same uniform the kids will still be made fun of because their shoes are ugly, cheap, out of style, etc.
The good part about them is that everyone will be wearing the same thing, there will be less things for people to make fun of other people for. Another good thing is that you don't have to pick out your clothes every morning you just put your uniform on.
Personally, I have to wear both because I go to a trade high school, when I am in class I can wear normal clothes, when I am in my trade I have to wear my uniform.

Don't be so stuck up, school uniforms save money for the parents and save heart ache for the kids. Let the kids show who they are by the way they dress on the weekend. Then we don't have to worry about our kids getting sent home for wearing the wrong thing. Our daughters can't sneak out in one thing and change on the way to school if there is a dress code. Or how about when the kids say I have nothing to wear!

I went to a private elementary/middle school and a public high school. In middle school, I had uniforms and it felt like such a pain in the *** and in high school, there were no uniforms. It was nice to have no uniforms in high school, but looking back on it, it was soooo easy in the morning to get dressed with a uniform. And you can put personal touches on a uniform, like necklaces, shoes and its honestly easier to stick out in a uniform than not, because if you wear one thing different than everyone else, everyone notices it. My point is uniforms aren't a "bad" thing, they're just really convenient and unfortunately, sometimes really ugly lol.

what I think is not good is the way the girls dress with very short skirts at schools these days. That simply causes distraction and agitation for the young males whos studies are obviousley going to be distracted.
generally even uniforms are worked around by the kids these days so the students look cool and try to fit the social pressures of being sexually attractive.
the result is immature sex relations
1 in four pregnancies are aborted.
this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.
uncontrolled sex life is encouraged these days so you end up with a generation of children who are not really wanted by the parent (s)
this is very much characterised by dress at schools.
