This isn't really an action book, but its about the war in Sierra Leone. ITS FREAKIN AWSOME!! Im not a total stickler for autobiographies or books on war, im more about the controversies on the wars and such, but this book should be read my everyone everywhere. It is filled with vivid imagery, excellent detail, the author really makes you feel like you are right along side of him. very, very good book. It is A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. If you happen to read it, let me know how you liked it.

Action? The Bourne_______ 1,2,3, etc are by Robert Ludlum, written for guys, I think, when you get down to it. I decided "fair" in the end, but read them all. ?!?!?!

Oh, these are mostly for adults, especially the next one, so beware, thar be dragons here.

There are good action books (but about Native Americans, if you don't mind, avatar...I hope not) by Sherman Alexie but you should read the blurbs. "Indian Killer" by him was very dark, very angry really... try it for a LOT of action.

Also "Man on Fire"... will have to search for author's name. I thought it a little long but I read it all in a sitting, so...! Doesn't matter if you saw the movie; they're different, kind of. Also a "for the guys" book.

And "The Traveler" by John Twelve Hawks, for action in a near future... don't be put off by a slow section, it'll pick up. It gets kinda "icky" once or twice but may be your speed.
Happy reading!

Go to Amazon.com and search:
"Lost from Atlantis Book 1" - Book 2 is going to be out in the next 6 weeks or so, Book 3 is written and in editing and will be out sometime in the next few months.
"Death by MURDER David Lindsay" - you have to search that way or it won't come up. There's lots of sex in that one.
"Super Spaghetti"
And the best part is, for now, they're all FREE. You can read them with Kindle Unlimited - if you don't have Kindle Unlimited Google how to get a free trial, and all those books are free. They can be read online, with a free Kindle phone app, or on a Kindle.

Make that a second for The Life of Pi and Catch 22.
How about some more? - (for age 14 and up I would think)
"The World According to Garp" by John Irving
"Bel Canto" by Ann Patchett
"Jurassic Park" by Michael Crichton (better than the movie by far)
"Enders Game" by Orson Scott Card
"A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole

Good action books? OK. There's a couple authors authors out there who have many good books of that type: Clive Cussler, Jack DuBrul and James Rollins are my favorites. I can also recommend Laura Joh Rowland (murder mysteries set in feudal Japan), Carl Hiaasen (somewhat goofy mysteries set in Florida), and Michael McClelland (similar style to Hiaasen, also set in Florida). Oh, yeah! Barb and J.C. Hendee have a pretty good series going based around vampire hunters. Good stuff.

I don't know how old you are so if you are younger like 4th or 5th grade try Hoot. But if you are like 6th or 7th grade try the outsider. It isn't really hard but it has suspension and is a good book. (I am in highschool and I would read it again) I don't suggest reading The Pearl, it is boring. But just go to the library and try different ones to find the kind you like best.

Catch 22 by Joseph Heller - it's a fast-paced classic that will make you think.

Don't be afraid of the older (well, ancient) classics as well... try The Epic of Gilgamesh (especially the translation by Stephen Mitchell) as well as The Illiad and The Odyssey (Robert Fagle's translations). They might be challenging at first, but they will improve your reading skills.

The Life of Pi is amazing. It is a book about philosophy, religon, and an action adventure set in a lifeboat at sea. Read it. It kicks butt.
