I have an overdrawn account at 5/3 that is about to close out. It is a long story but I am disputing the overdraws and have not paid anything on it and dont plan too unless they work something out with me. But anyway I have a check that was written out to me that is a 5/3 check...2 party. I am having a hard time cashing this check since I am overdrawn there. Does anyone have any ideas how to cash this without having to pay a fee. The check is only 30.00 and they want to charge 10.00 at another bank or wont even cash it at all since I dont have an account there. I have not encountered this problem before and was wondering if anyone has any ideas how to cash this without the hefty fees. Or know anywhere that the fees arent crazy. I know about having someone cash it for me, but I have heard that I cannot just sign it over to them without having to be there myself with an ID. Then if I do that they check my ID and wont cash it. Please help me. It will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try Wal-Mart or another big store, they cash checks and will charge maybe a dollar or two. Bring ID and Social Security #

You cannot just open a new bank account at a different bank. Your bad banking history is a part of your credit report. Another bank is going to see all your bad transactions and decide that they do not want you as a customer. 14 overdrafts shows that you are not responsible with money. Your bank may even take away your banking privileges after you pay all the fees. You should be aware of your bank account balance at all times. Before using your debit card, you need to be sure that you have the funds to make a purchase. If you do not have enough money in your account, then you should not make the transaction. Your payroll checks should be used to pay off your overdraft charges. Your bank will accept it as a deposit. You should talk to the bank and work out a payment plan with them. Perhaps a family member will give you a short term loan to help you out. You should consider credit counseling if you have other debts besides all your overdraft transactions. You sound as if you could have credit card addiction. Some people get a high when making a purchase. 14 debit card transactions is a lot for any one person to make in such a short timeframe. You need to get your spending under control before it ruins your life.

Unless you were the victim of ID theft or your wallet got stolen and the theives started writing checks until the account was withdrawn then the bank won't hold it against you unless you got a police report to prove it. If you don't fit that reason then you're responsible for your charges and if you don't pay they'll apply it to your credit report. I've overdrawn before, but if you don't want it on your credit history pay it off. If you overdrew the account pay the fees because it's either that or you see it on your credit report and this can make it difficult to open a bank account if you let it get to that point.

Ask the person who gave you a check to give you cash instead or wait until your bank has resolved your dispute. If you can prove you weren't overdrawn why haven't they apologized for the mistake and refunded any overdraft fees?
