Why is it that they all look the same?
Trends in general are annoying...you'd think that people who "search within themselves to find themselves" would have more of a sense of self.
I'm not saying I dont believe in this but any psychic I've met looks exactly the same as the last.
I know of one wiccan who dresses in what makes her comfortable and she does like bright colors....

If you truely believe, why bother with earthly trends? Why go so far out of your way to look so much the same?

And why is it that when any of the aforementioned people "find their true religion/belief" they go from jeans and a t-shirt to floor length skirts and beads OR go from Brunette to Black?

???????????????????????????????????????????????

Great answer, thanks for not jumping down my throat :)

I must clarify that I"m not saying that pagans dress like psychics...but that most pagans dress alike and most psychics dress alike.

Right, I also understand that people in general follow trends (including myself to an extent)
What I'm questioning is why do they feel they need to try so hard to look like "a psychic" or other group.

Why not just be yourself and embrace who you are. (like the 3rd answer...if you have gems and things that represent you than more power to you! that's you being true to yourself.

With religious group aside...there's the "punk" trend...why would you embrace your difference by dressing the same as other people?

I think certain people dress the part because they want society to be able to readily identify them as nonconformist.

I am pagan and my favorite item of clothing that I wore for 15 years (until my friends said no more) was a very bright coat.
Affectionately known as the rainbow jacket.

I'm a Pagan, and I dress in what I like to wear, and what I feel most comfortable and happy in. Such happens to be baggy pants and baggy t-shirts and old Vans sneakers. But then again, I was brought up in a poor family so I'm used to having the same clothes for 5+ years.

I've met many people within the groups you mentioned and most of them don't dress like me. And dress the way they want to dress. Trends happen, and sometimes Pagans/Wiccans/Psychics actually enjoy and love the clothes that make those trends even after they've long been outdated.

Generalizing doesn't help anyone, nor do they prove that the groups you named ALL dress alike.

Hon, I'm not sure what you're talking about. I'm somewhere between a pagan and an atheist, and I have have a Wiccan friend....neither of us dress Goth. (Black just isn't our color, I guess.)
I'm natural dark blonde, and she's a natural redhead.
We both wear jeans most of the time, like 90% of other Americans. My own style is hippie/gypsy but it's probably because that was my favored way of dressing as a teenager in the late 60's and early 70's, and it's now possible to buy those styles of clothing again.
Even television's two favorite "spiritualists" dress differently; Allison, the "Medium", dresses like a typical susburban housewife, while Melinda the "Ghost Whisperer" has a definite Victorian style.
Anyways Hon, if we have similar ways of dressing, I guess it's just because it reflects our New Age-y lifestyle and way of being. I have to admit that I've always loved clothing made in India because I find it evocative of the mysticism of that country.

Did you ever consider that perhaps dressing in goth clothing *is* who I am? (Or, for that matter, my hippie garb, or jeans and t-shirt, or whatever else I feel like wearing that day)? Did it ever occur to you that the only effort I put out is deciding what I'm comfortable, regardless of what other people may or may not wear?

And if you think that all pagans dress alike, you obviously haven't been around very many pagans. Yes, there are some of us who prefer to dress in more eccentric manners, but there are also plenty of jeans and t-shirts kinda pagans. And you get both trendy and serious folks in all sorts of clothing.

Now, go put away that broad brush you've painting people with.

I don't know about anyone else but every color I wear has a purpose as do the gems or stones in my jewelery and whether the settings are gold or silver. All of it means something to me. Most intent determinations of the colors and gems are universal with only a few variations in some of the lists depending on who the authors were of the lists. As far as people dressing like each other, all religions are guilty of this to a certain extent. Go to church some time and You'll see a certain dress code being practiced in every church in the land. It doesn't matter where, it's there. It's human nature.

I'm a life-long polytheist.
Around home, I wear sweats and a t-shirt. At work I usually wear jeans, t-shirt, work shirt and/or a flannel. I don't own any floor-length skirts or dresses. I wouldn't know where to wear them if I had them. I am one of the few women that I know (of any religion) who doesn't dye my hair in any way. My gray shows and that's fine with me. The only jewelry that I wear is my wedding ring.

My neo-pagan friends tend to be in the same age group as me and they dress similar to me. Some have professional jobs where they wear suits all day and some work in the medical field so they wear scrubs. None dress as you describe. I wonder where you got the idea that we dress in odd/inappropriate clothing. The only times that I've seen odd clothing is in movies, and among people who are trying to draw attention to themselves. These people don't represent neo-pagans any more than any other fanatic represents the people who practice their proclaimed faith.

I'm a professional who also happens to be a psychic. I dress in suits/dresses. Does that mean that I have a psychic 'trend?' I am not pulling your leg. Many people are psychic and do not advertise it. I don't wear floor length skirts for any occasion (I personally despise them) and beads just get tangled up. I wear my talisman and get on with my day. You will find when you search more deeply that what I am telling you about me is true about many of the groups you have pigeonholed above. Happy hunting for those of us you have not identified!

^ For Pagans and Wiccans - It's not true, we all dress differently even within our own, except sometimes, some of us may wear ceremonial robes or go sky clad. The ceremonial robes are similar but not the same.

The only mediums I've seen that dressed basically the same were the charlatans that will rob you blind if you let them. The true mediums/psychics don't dress uniformly.

I don't know anyone into the goth lifestyle so I can't answer for them. Blessed be.

That has to be one of the most well thought out generalizations I have ever heard. It's never a good idea to lump a group of people together like that by saying that they "all" look or act a certain way.

For example, it would be wrong of me to say "Why is it that all Christians are arrogant, self centered, righteous and hypocritical when the very religion they follow preaches 'Love thy fellow man'?" It would be wrong because such a statement would not be true simply because religious belief, right?

Granted many Wiccans, Pagans and other similar groups dress a certain way but it's not a religious thing...it's more of a lifestyle decision....and not all of them choose it.

I'm a Pagan of sorts. I've never come across any Wiccans who looked anything like me. Nor Pagans, for the most part, either.

I'll confess there must be some inadvertent grain of truth in what you've said.

The first time I met Raymon Grace he and I had to stare at one another a while trying to figure out who was dressing like whom.

I think that is a popular misconception, most Pagans dress pretty much like they want to or just as regular people, there is not specific style of dress. Most of the Pagans I know dress in various ways. I am Wiccan, and most days I go to work in a suit.
