SYDNEY, Australia - America's troop buildup in Iraq has sharply reduced sectarian killings and roadside bombings and lowered al-Qaida's influence, the top U.S. general in the country said in an interview published Friday.
"We say we have achieved progress, and we are obviously going to do everything we can to build on that progress and we believe al-Qaida is off balance at the very least," The Australian newspaper quoted Gen. David Petraeus as saying. Petraeus said there had been a 75 percent drop in ethnic and religious killings since last year, a doubling in the number of seizures of insurgent weapons caches between January and August, a drop in the number of coalition deaths from roadside bombs, and an increase in the killing and capture of al-Qaida fighters, the newspaper said.
Okay libs; How are you people going to spin this one to say that we are still losing in Iraq?

Speak up; I served in Iraq, I don't have to listen to the media about what is really going on in Iraq; I was there and I saw the good, the bad and the ugly in our missions there.
I did not see anything being said about the schools we built, the hospitals we've supplied, the restructurization of the government that we helped; not much on the three elections that were held by the people of Iraq and not even the simple stuff, like Fatima (an Iraqi girl abandoned in the trash and rescued by US forces).

What about Youssif? The 5 year old that was set on fire by insurgents and now is in the US being treated for his wounds with the help of donations from thousands of American and international charities?

I know to listen to a veteran first. In Vietnam I watched the media lie about what was going on. The politicians and general will aways sugar coat their progress, but the veterans know first hand their progress and success.

I think the two links here dispute your claims. One from a serving officer in Iraq and another from Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) just returned from a visit to Iraq and who says
What I feel is going on right now is that there’s a major PR effort going on to convince the Congress and the media and the public that just enough progress has been made to justify staying. A little more, and then maybe a little more, and a little more — perhaps to where Petraeus has said 9 or 10 years have elapsed. Calling for patience is not at this point going to work with the American people, and I’m hoping…are just too smart to be fooled again.
During one of the days she was in Iraq, Schakowsky said four soldiers were killed in the Diyala province, a British soldier was killed in Baghdad, 33 Iraqis were killed in Tal Afar in a residential neighborhood by a truck bomb, six street cleaners were killed by an IED in Baghdad, two people were killed on a minibus, and 17 bodies found killed by death squads.
“It’s so clear to me that our focus is on the wrong battlefield,” Schakowsky said. “And my experience in the region has convinced me more than ever that we must set a deadline to withdraw our troops from the religious and tribal civil war that’s going on in Iraq.”

Now that we are in Iraq we have a job to do before we leave. I don't think we should have gone there in the first place. I think we may have created more terrorists than we got rid of. But then I'm just some whitebread American trying to decipher the truth from a bunch of propaganda like everyone else. No wonder nobody agrees on anything. Agreement requres at least a small amount of basic truth.

It is a lie to say that Liberals want the US to lose the war. Liberals wish the war could have been won four years ago, so the troops could have been home by now. They still wish the war could be "won" now so the troops could come home.
STOP LYING!!!

The Lib spin doctors will find a way. They will report only the negative news. They are tireless assholes! A great question by the way.

So let me get this straight...we should believe that we are now winning because the top general said so? Do you really expect him to tell the world that he is failing?
Do you believe everything you read?

I don't have to spin anything. Look at the injured soldiers and coffins that are coming back. I'm not sure about you, but I think we lost a long time ago.......good luck!
