So, I went to the health dept today for a tetanus shot and they took my blood pressure. It was 103/70. The nurse asked me what mine was before and it was 107/something and said that my pulse was even lower the last time. She said it was kinda low and that 120/80 is generally the normal range for my age. I'm 20, female, 5'8, 164lbs.

High blood pressure runs in my family. I haven't been eating too healthily lately. I figured that my blood pressure should be high, if anything, from fast food. Also, I was stressed out at work today... I've noticed lately that my energy level has decreased some. I work(factory job), go home, and don't really do anything else. from being tired. I can sleep for 10 hours at a time. I noticed at the store today, I bent down to look on the shelf for something, for a few minutes, and when I went to stand back up, I felt a little bit lightheaded. The nurse told me that if I had problems with it, maybe I should go to my regular doctor. ...any suggestions?

Your blood pressure is excellent. Although 120/80 is regarded as normal 103/70 is much better and 90/60 would be even better. Below 90/60 is too low.

Blood pressure measurements don't count for anything if you've been walking around. Ideally, you should be sitting down for at least 5 minutes or so. Blood pressure also can vary during the day, so it's best to get measurements from similar times during the day. No caffeine in the morning either. These measurements should be repeated on a few separate occasions. Some people get "white coat hypertension" when they go to the doctor's office because they are nervous. Probably blood pressure medicines wouldn't kill you. But you don't necessarily need blood pressure medicines if your blood pressure is only high while active. When doctors study the effects of high blood pressure, they study the effects of people who are diagnosed with it as described above. You are probably at no higher cardiac risk from your blood pressure.

Being light headed can be caused by low blood pressure as well as other issues. Maybe you got up too fast when you were at the store the other day. If you are concerned about the dizziness (especially if you've not had this experience before) I would recommend seeing your doctor. Ask him/her to measure your ORTHOSTATIC blood pressure changes. Basically, orthostatic blood pressure measurements are read when the patient is laying down flat, immediately upon sitting up, and immediately upon standing. If there's even a 10% difference, there may be a problem.

I just started nursing school three weeks ago and this is exactly the topic we've been discussing.

My blood pressure is even lower than yours. I just went to the doctor's today and it came out at 102/60 and that's really normal for me. I am f/28/5'8"/122lbs It depends on the person.

First, your blood pressure is excellent. I wish mine was like yours! Second, lightheadedness can be caused by exhaustion or poor nutrition, and you have both, so that could explain it. Start eating healthy. The fact that you are stressed out may also explain why you are so tired after 10 hours a night of sleep. I recommend that you try to reduce the source of the stress, and/or figure out ways to handle it better. You might try meditation, it helps people deal with stress. If none of this helps, see a doctor and get a blood work-up to make sure there is not something physically wrong.

Your blood pressure is great!! Some times when you bend down the blood rushes to your head (to keep your brain oxygenated) when you stand back up the extra blood rushes away leaving you light headed for a few moments. this is normal. as far as your energy level that could be due to the stress. as the other posted stated try going on a healthier diet and try yoga/mediation for stress relief. Good luck!!

Hi the last time I checked my blood pressure it was 103/70... I've been having bad anxiety attacks every day.. .and everytime I stand up I get dizzy and light headed and sometimes I see black. Even if I make sure I stand up slowly it still happens....is that normal? But I haven't been eating that well lately either Because of my stress and anxiety ...is it normal to feel light headed upon standing? Thanks
