Just reading a book by Dr Vernon Coleman called 'How to stop your doctor killing you'. He says there is no proven link between high cholesterol & heart problems, or any ill health for that matter. In fact women with high cholesterol are less prone to certain cancers. Since the last 20 years the drugs companies have made a killing out of hyping up cholesterol as a problem and selling billions of $ worth of drugs on the back of it. But if you are worried, just cut down on red meat, eat more fresh fruit & veg and take a walk 30 mins a day. That should fix it for free!

Regular daily exercise - what worked for me was walking 45 min. 6 days a week. After 6 months, I had a very good drop in cholesterol which continued for roughly about a year. Didn't drop after that.
Weight loss if you are overweight - losing 20% will drop your cholesterol, but whether it's the weight or simply because you are eating less quantity, I don't know.
Pineapple Bran Muffins - this works very well. The best recipe was in the 8 Week Cholesterol Cure. The book's information is completely out of date, but the recipe was good. Disadvantage is gas.
Oatmeal - My Mom had benefit from that. I didn't.

I'm not sure what 6.5 mmol/l is, but to lower your cholesterol you should take fish oil or flax. Try to eat a more plant based diet, to lower it sooner, try red yeast rice. It works just like a statin drug. You should take CoQ10 with this. And EXERCISE!

What was you homocysteine level? If theree is no damage (homocysteine is a good indicator as it causes vascular damage) ther is nothing for the cholesterol (basically part of a repair mechanism) to stick to. That being said, moderate exercise and a diet low in fats and red meats and high in fruits and vegetables will help. Check out the information here.

Oats, oatmeal or oats based muesli, garlic and fish oil.
A Yahoo search for "high cholesterol" + "natural remedies" will tell you much more.
