I have a front deltoid muscle strain extremity , it has been about 1 week since i was seen by a doctor in th ER and he did not recomend any further treatment , but did not tell me when i could start lifting heavy weights again ( i.e. 245 lbs for bench press ) which is not a large amount for me normally

I would wait until the pain is gone, and then start with less weight, and build back up to what you were. But only go as fast as your body can handle, or you will risk re-injury, or worse...a tear of the muscle. Also treat the injury with antinflammatory meds like Aleve, and ice the area for 20 min 3 times a day. Did the ER doctor tell you to follow up with your family physician? He may have, and you don't remember. Check the paper that they gave you when they discharged you from the ER, it may say on there, what you need to know. (If you can read it, lol) Good luck

if you tore muscle tissue this will take time to recover.
I'd lift lighter loads for awhile.
