An agrarian economy is one where the majority of output is produced in agriculture. In other words, productivity is not particularly high, so people can produce very little beyond food, clothing, and shelter.

It is one where most of the people make their living by growing food. This often means that there is not a lot of money in the economy as a lot of trade and barter goes on. It is usually quite a poor economy as people grow enough for themselves and just sell a little.
