Did Y2K scare you into buying lots of duct tape and water for a 3 months supply?

This girl that I worked with bought lots of food ahead, as she thought cash registers wouldn't work, so stores would close.

She bought a generator, as she thought the electrical grid was all on computer and would surely go down.

She saved up many plastic jugs and filled them with water, because... I don't know why. And bought kerosene heaters and lots of kerosene, because maybe the furnace wouldn't work.

We all laughed at her. She was so ticked with us. She planned to have the last laugh when everything quit working. Was she ever angry when everything worked just fine.

But then, she saved up all the same things and took all the same precautions when 9/11 happened. She told her kids that WW III had just begun, and they should start watching for enemy submarines to come up the river. Scared the heck out of both of them.

I didn't go into a panic like a great many people did in Y2K but I admit I thought there were going to be some tremendous global changes especially with all the hype about it even in major media.

I didn't worry about it because the Y2K thing only affected the really old computers. But, I did see one fellow at the supermarket buying a whole cart of frozen TV dinners. I didn't have the heart to ask him who was going to eat that thawed gruel if the electricity went out on his freezer. Also saw one lady with a cart full of bathroom tissue. Maybe she was the back-up plan companion for that fellow. LOL!

No, I was not fearful of something happening. However, many people were and my pastor asked me if i could come up with something for that night...for the congregation. So, I did.

That night was the first time I had written and produced a play. I don't think anyone was worried about what would happen, once the curtains went up! It was a night I will never forget and one i hope all who participated, will never forget either!

No, I did not stock up on anything. I put all trust in God as HE knows what is to come while men guess!

I didn't think that anything was going to happen, but I did have to be on a "Millennium Bug Committee" at my work (a big city hospital). We had to sit around talking about what we would do if "the worst case scenario" actually happened, and we were to end up with no phones, lifts, electricity, computers, life support equipment, etc. It did make you realise how much we depend on computers for everything these days !

Not me, daisymae. I had to work until past 12 a.m. because our boss was advised that something might happen. The whole thing had to do with all time turned back and getting the computers are fouled up. At least, that is my remembrance of it. Supposedly, everything would go back to 1900 instead of 2000. It was kinda weird.

I made sure I had a full tank of gas in the car. I had the normal food on hand. I came from the engineering field, mostly being in computers, so the potential was there. As for my old computer then, I just reset the date on 10 years earlier.

I ignored the people who cliamed the world was going to end 8 years ago. Now I ignore the same people who are claiming bush did/knew about 9/11. Who knows what they will come up with next.

I wasn't scared until just seconds before the clock struck midnight. I kinda braced myself a little but then when all was well it was onto the New Years kisses!

I knew the computers weren't going to shutdown like they said it would. The media loves to "hype" things up to scare the public. The government loves to keep us afraid so we can spend money on guns and security... but that's another topic!
