I live in the US, and am wanting to compare the prices here to those in the UK.

I am wanting prices not for really expensive places like London , but just average town prices.

Please, could you tell me the price you would expect to pay for the following items ?????

Small Studio apartment with utilities (rent for one month)?

Modest groceries for one person (for one week)?

cheap bottle of red wine ( 1.5 litre) ??

pint at a average pub (Guiness for example)???

pack of cigarettes ????

petrol per litre???

anything else basic you think you would need to buy to live on to exist?

(clothes for example)

Everything is more expensive in the UK than the USA. The only thing not imported are the rain storms.

Quit smoking... Because you can't smoke in public places here.

And we are british or english... not 'UK people'.

The following are all guesses... probably bad but I suggest you do your own research using a search engine:

Flat... 400-700 pounds.
Groceries... 50ish pounds maybe. Maybe more. Maybe less, I don't know how much you eat.

Petrol per litre is around a pound.

You can get a cheap bottle of red wine for about 4-6 pound.

beer pint... really no clue on this one. I don't drink, don't go to pubs.. that's my dad's job.

Hi,

It would cost around £400-£600 per month to rent a basic studio apartment. On top of that you would have to add your gas and electric and telephone.
Gas-£20-30 per month
Electric-£20-30 per month
Telephone and t.v channels around £50 per month

On top of that you have your television licence £135.50 per year and you have to have one.

There are loads of cheap shops to get your groceries so £25-£35 would get you a decent variety of foods for a week.

Red wine would be anywhere from £2.50-£5.00

Some pubs do happy hours etc. where you would pay £1.50 per pint of whatever you were drinking but the average in most pubs is £2.25-£2.75

Cigarettes cost around £4.50 for 20. Although the more you buy the cheaper it gets, but we cant smoke in pubs clubs or restaurants over here anymore, you have to go outside!

If you wanted a meal for 2 in a pub you would be looking at £7-£10, in a restaurant it would be £20-£100..

Loads of cheap clothes over here, unless you want designer stuff then you pay way over the odds!

Public transport is costly too, its cheaper to travel by plane than it is to travel by train!

Hope this helps! It's not a cheap place to live by any stretch of the imagination!

ooops almost forgot petrol is 96.3p per litre and diesel is 96.9p per litre!

OK - double up pounds for dollars!

Small Studio apartment with utilities (rent for one month)? At least £500.00 ($10,000)

Modest groceries for one person (for one week)? £40.00 roughly

cheap bottle of red wine ( 1.5 litre) ?? £4.00

pint at a average pub (Guiness for example)??? £5.00

pack of cigarettes ???? Marlboro lights £5.25

petrol per litre??? £5.00 per gallon

anything else basic you think you would need to buy to live on to exist? England is NOT cheap to live in - London prices are virtually double for property and booze.
