i have a pre-algebra book, and this problems has a decimal...here it is


-110/2.5=


my answer show up as (-4 . remainder 10) but the book saids
-44, and i check out the caculator and it says the same thing too (-44)


did i do anything wrong?....or did i miss something?....

Well it looks like the calculator is right ...
Try this ..just move the decimal over one place making it 25 and add a zero to the -110 making it -1100 now do your long division see if that helps ...To explain what we rule a applies to be able to do this we use the distributive and the additive property ...these properties allow us to do the same thing to both sides of the problem and it will not change the outcome...Don't feel bad about the mistake we all are destined to make them...keep up the good work...Good luck from the E....

Moving the decimal one place to the right.
25 )-1100.0000(-44
-100 (4 x 25)
___
100. (4 x 25)
-100.
___
0 (Once zero is reached that is the end of the 'long' division.
So answer is -44.0

I think you are right

Turn the other way around -44 * 2.5 = -110
But -4 * 2.5 = -10

-44 is the correct answer. You must have forgotten the decimal!!

You divided -110 by 25, not 2.5. :)

it looks like you forgot the decimal place between the 2 & 5 when you did it.

do this, -1100/25, u just multiply both sides by 10 so u dnt have a decimal, try this, see if it works out right this time, =)
