My machine has a PCIE x16 slot, but a lot of the cards I'm seeing online are just PCIE, which I assume means probably just x1. Will a PCIE card work in a PCIE x16 slot? Thanks

PCI Express x16 is the video card slot.
PCI Express x1 are the small slots not sure what they are used for yet.
Standard PCI Slot used for wireless adapter, Sound card or Physics Card.
PCI Express is x16 when referring to a video card, double the rate of an AGP Card x8.

Yes, you can. However, you will only get performance of a pci-e 1.0 slot. SO your are not getting the full performance that your card could provide.
