My daughter tried to download songs onto her MP3 player through our USB. I wasnt there so not exactly sure what went down, but she said all of the songs she originally had on her MP3 were gone. I tried to upload pics from my digital, plugged it into the USB and it wouldnt do anything. I unplugged it, and then realized all the pics were gone from my camera. What is going on here? I have an old pc. My friend said my USB might be outdated. Is this even possible?

So, should I replace it?

I can look at my camera and see that all the pictures are gone. It is empty.

I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid answer, but are you sure that the photos/songs are actually gone from the respective devices? The only reason I ask is that as you said your pc is old there may be a problem with it actually detecting the devices even though they may show up in My Computer.could you try plugging them in to another pc and see whether the files are still there?
Hope this helps anyway, sorry if it doesn't.

Hi. An outdated USB will not erase anything. Sounds like a malfunction within the port, maybe a short circuit.

Sounds like they have moved the files somewhere, try using "search" they might be on the PC. This happens if you drag and drop and do things to quickly.
