What other type of career would you consider if you've been affected by big problem in the mortgage industry?

I know people who have not found a job in over 8 months, and were loan officers, processors, etc. with so many lay offs, I understand there is still business, however not everyone wants to stay in it, being so shaky ?
Any suggestions or ideas?

Right now I'm looking on craigslist.com. I was amazed at the number of postings for jobs. I hope to find something to supplement my income for awhile.
