The first *promotional* rock video- specifically shot to boost sales of the record is usually accepted as being "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. In reality though people had been doing them for longer. The oldest one I remember was "Subterreanean Homesick Blues" by Bob Dylan from the 60's

The MusicVideo industry and the earliest modern-day promotional videos were conceived and produced by Hollywood producer-director, Thomas Eubank. The first was Ray Parker, Jr. and his new group, Raydio. The 1978 Arista Records hit song was "Jack & Jill". The promo video was cut into Wolfman Jack's Saturday night "Midnight Special" television show and "Jack & Jill" film promos were projected on movie screens all over europe.
