Unusual.
The pain usually comes from the stone passing down the ureter not the urethra. The ureter is the tube carrying urine from the kidney to bladder. A stone is usually less than 5mm in diameter. If larger then they may not pass. It would have to be a really large stone for you to sense it passing through your urine stream. Usually if it were that large it would have never made it to the bladder.

RE:
what does it feel like to pass a kidney stone?
The guy that I am currently seeing recently passed his 15th kidney stone. I was at his place when he passed it & I heard him scream from the bathroom. I know the stones come out of a man's penis down through the urethra, but other postings on this board dont really say what they feel like when...

The pain can be anytthing from a dull uncomfortable feeling to pain that makes you just want to cry. I've passed a number of kidney stones and it's never been pleasant. Your guy should definitely see his doctor about the kidney stone problem. There are ways to reduce the possibility of even getting kidney stones.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

It can be tremendously painful. In fact, I believe the most pain for me was when the stone actually passed from my bladder through the urinary sphincter to the urethra/shaft of penis. When it is happening acutely, it is often accompanied with severe pain, sweats, nausea/vomiting, and sometimes a feeling of blacking out. Good luck my friend and take care.

I understand that it's like pissing a razor blade for days at a time without a break because the stone is like a tiny "shard" .
