I'm trying to find out what basic services are provided by non-profit organizations. I know they all have their specific field, but there is a structure of sorts that all non profits will go through. I'm looking for a list of basic (and some not so basic) services they render, as well as a list of information detailing what the organization does through out the year. ie, look for sponsors 20% of the time, give away money or services 30% of the time, etc. Best answer will go to the person who is descriptive, detailed, knowlegable, and meets the requirements of the question. Thank you.

The structure is they need to register as a 501(c)(3). They need a business plan and have to offer no less then 3% to charity they have a large administrative back office. The ones I work with provide a service for the needy. This has been a very competitive field the past few years. People are organizing two companys one is none profit the other is a marketing company becuse they need to pay commissions and want to make profits first in order to stay alive.

Services can range the colors of a rainbow..

To be an agency like the Jaycees, the Lions, Elks, etc etc (community service groups) they are registered 501 (c) 3.

If they are a true charity like a church, The United Way, March of Dimes, etc etc, they are registered a 501 (c) 4. and contributions to them are tax deductible for the donor. Each501 code has its own set of regulations and guidelines as far as the IRS is concerned.

As a business model, of course they would want to optimize their solicitation efforts while cutting costs associated with fund raising and operations to a bare minimum to get the most bang for their buck....

Actually, there are non-profits in almost every field; education, consulting, medical, religion, etc. There is no single set of basic services ... they cross all business sectors.
