I think our past political activities overseas created many reasons for them to hate us. Now we have to deal with it. The majority of the public seemed to think that they came here and hit us with 9/11 first.

don't even try and rationalize what extremists do... maybe a goat told them to hate us, who knows.

Terrorism has many causes, and each terrorist group has its own motivations. I think resorting to violence is often crazy, and always a desperate act, but there's usually some legitimate concern underlying violent action. Where Bin Laden is concerned, he stated what his reason for attacking the US was -- we never left Saudi Arabia after the first Gulf War, and he felt threatened by our obvious intent to remain a permanent military presence in the Middle East, particularly in his home country. This is after the US promised to withdraw in a timely fashion; the war was declared to be over, yet we remained. Terrorists attack civilians (like on 9/11) because they lack the resources to attack a force as formidable as the US military. Of course, that is changing. The Iraq war has polarized people in the Middle East and now terrorists are finding more supporters. I'm not saying terrorism is ever justified, but the US has a long history of interfering politically, economically, and militarily in the Middle East, and that is a large part of what leads them to hate the US.

A similar argument could be used by the Japanese for the attack on Pearl Harbor. There are always reasons for an attack on another nation. Whether they are justified is another matter. A sneak attack on innocent civilians to make a point has never been been and never will be justified. the United States is an inpediment to religious nutcases aiming to destroy a country they believe to be infidels. These nutcases and mass murderers justify their actions in the name of religion. Sorry, not good enough for forward thinking fair minded normal folks who think these hatchetmen deserve total destruction before they infect the world population with their hateful viruses. Either you totally destroy a virus or it totally destroys you. Not much of a choice I admit. Then again we didn't start this insanity but the world expects us to stop it-especially all the folks and nations that sit on their hands and expects others to save their ***. Been that way forever. No one expects that to change anytime soon.

Some of our Cold War activities DID create these terrorists. Some of them were CIA sponsored or trained in the 1st Afghan war between Russia, America and Muhajeen, Taliban and Al Queda.

The problem? They turned on us. Why? Maybe such leaders were losing face (and power) over their fellow holy fighters when being viewed of puppets of a greater nation, so they broke away from being puppets of the US and the Soviets in order to look like they were in control so they could retain control and demonized us in order to make it look like they are fighting a good cause, when in reality it is all just a show to break away from being a figure head.

Ther is such a history here that it would take days to explain it fully. All I say is that anyone who thinks this is strictly because of our policies is sadly mistaken and misinformed. All of what is happening today is simply a resurgence of what Islam is at it's core, and has been since Mohammed. It is about oppression of anyone that can be put under the boot of Islam, and hatred for anyone who refuses to submit. It is in short,Islam in it's purest form.

The fact is that the insurgents, terrorists, and oppresive Islamic governments of the world are practicing Islam as it was intended. It is in fact the "peaceful" Muslims who are practicing Islam in a way not intended by it's founders.

Over the decades I would say our policies and business arrangements have made many people angry in the middle-east. We have played each country against one another while arming the major players. Now we have them all armed and they are killing Americans. What did we expect after invading Iraq? Should we have expected these people to be grateful for this mess? Our government is hurting us so badly on this whole Iraq fiasco it isn't even funny. We willingly opened Pandora's Box.

It's definitely a bit of both, who can blame them for resenting the fv*k out of the west, YES, there has been a multitude of sins committed by our government's, God it truly makes me sick to think of the damage that has been done to us all, for whatever reason, HOWEVER, the lack of feedback from the moderate muslims is scarey to say the least, and the actions of the radical extremists is nothing short of demonic, soooo my friend, Yes our forefather's caused some amount of $hit, for you and me, but NOTHING can justify the actions of a suicide bomber, or an improvised IED, this to me shows me that we are dealing with a bunch of deranged fanatics who have no boundaries in the games they are playing, one goddamn threat after another, sooner ( hopefully ) rather than later, we will stand united in our mission to win the fight over pure demonic hatered that already festers within them for thousands and thousands of years, enough is enough, ICE THE B@sT@RD$, and before the PC brigade start with their bi-tch-ing, go to the middle east and stay there please or shut the fv*k up.

If we were creating them, their actions would be limited toward us.

They're not.

Just in the last year they've been beheading Buddhists in Southern Thailand, executing villagers in eastern Africa, and rioting and looting in Paris. They're also setting off bombs in Spain and Britain.

Thailand didn't participate in either war, neither did any eastern African nation, and France opposed the Iraq war. Spain and Britain supported us but no more, yet they do not escape the terror.

Mick you are the stupid one - the Danes do not have more freedom than we do - - but the Muslims do hate the Danes because one of their cartoonists drew pictures of Muhammad.

And Kelly, the fact that you've been to Newbury Comix doesn't impress anyone.

Our policies created them.. We have been bombing those countries for years... They have had MANY 9/11's... I'm sorry but no one just randomly wakes up one day and decides to take their OWN life and others.... When I say we.. I mean the government.. It's not the citizens of America... are responsible but our forgien policy.. It needs to change.. otherwise there will always be blowback.. and anyone who tells you anything different is just an ignorant fool...

I agree.

Although it is much more complicated than just that.
Religion fanaticism does have a place in it but for the most part they feel they are as entitled to their sovereignty and place in the world as the United States and Russia and China and all the superpowers do.
