After you've threaded the top of the machine, into the actual needle, hold the thread gently and turn the wheel so the needle will go down and back up. This should pick up a loop of bobbin thread from inside the machine. Pull that loop up and then pull the top thread and bobbin thread through the toes and out of the way. Yes, you leave them hanging. When you start sewing, put your fabric in place and lower the foot, and hold these threads for the first couple stitches.

I hope that helps!

This is an okay video: http://www.expertvillage.com/videos/sewing-basics-thread-machine.htm

1] The loop they are talking about is the one that pops up from the bobbin, when you are threading it - you already pulled the loop up, [ I hope ] if both threads are out on the plate.
2] Hold both threads while you place the fabric and lower the pressure foot.
3] Keep holdings threads until seam is started - a few stitches - so they lock into the fabric.
4] SEW!

If it didn't come with an owners manual you can probably find one on-line that will have pictures to show you what each part is, and exactly how to thread the machine.
