I don't play games or do any photo editing or anything. When they say 19", do they mean 19" diagonally?

No, its not too big and yes thats diagonal. . Its a great size. It's actually bigger than a 19 inch CRT because it is actually 19 inches diagonally versus the 17.8 inches or so that they call "viewable" with the 19 inch CRT.

Nope. it is not too big. I am looking at one right now.
Yes it is diagonal for 4/3 ratio screens otherwise it is the width.

Yes it is a diagonal measurement of the visible area.


There is no such thing as too big a monitor!

If it is a standard LCD it is diagonally, if it is a widescreen, it is length.
