It's time the world had a break from her, our fond memories of her should suffice from now on...

Sup with a silver spoon.
Mandela stood for his beliefs and did a lot of time in an unfriendly nick. Mandela, even though he has no 'official' status in South Africa, is the catalyst who holds this 'rainbow nation' together. When he dies, we may see a different South Africa, but we'll wait and see.
Diana made no sacrifices. She used her social status to espouse her causes, and her campaigning against land mines could well be putting our own troops at risk, and may be responsible, even obliquely, for military casualties that may not have occured had she stuck to Ascot, Goodwood and the Belvoir.
Her death occurred in sordid circumstances that did not reflect the type of morality that our political leaders were trying to impose upon us at the time of her death. Far from being a paragon, she was just another person indulging in a bit of lubricity. If I were killed travelling from a clandestine meeting with a putative lover, would I have a statue erected to me. I have donated 1% of my income to the RNLI for 32 years - a sacrifice that I would consider greater than that eked from a silver spoon lady who married into royalty.
Let us erect statues and give honour to those worthy of the accolade. Let us rename Liverpool Airport as 'Royal Liverpool Phiharmonic Orchestra Airport' instead of 'John Lennon Airport' - a name relating to a dreamer who proposed a counter-culture of indifference and irresponsilbility. Does Belfast really need an airport that is named after a notorious drunk? I'd name the airport as Belfast Paisley/Adams after two people who have overcome tremendous pressures from their own communities, and even more tremendous pressures from within their own, internal, prejudices and backgrounds to at least lay a foundation for the future of Northern Ireland.
Diana was reasonably pretty, a girl who had few intellectual pretensions, and who may have made a reasonably good PA had she not come from a privileged background. I'd rather erect an obelisk in Hades for the paparazzi that hounded her than a monument to her. A failed celebrity is little different from a bankrupt parent.

no.she was an ordinary person and she would not have wanted a statue. she also has not done anything to deserve one. Diana was a kind caring person , a lovely mother and a good ambassador for UK but thats all. Nelon Mandela is totally different. He suffered for a long time for his cause and i'm pleased hes got a statue

She certainly deserves one but so do many people around the world, they just don't have the fame and spotlight that Diana did. All charity work should get more recognition

Yes, I believe the publics unique response to her death demonstrated how popular and well respected she was.
Perhaps if an appropriate accolade had been put in place, and a public enquiry held ten years ago the matter would have been laid to rest.

I think it's a SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMPLY wonderful idea to erect a statue to Princess Di in recognition of all the great works this remarkable woman carried out for us all-the amazing amounts of luxury shopping, the photocalls and everything. Truly a modern day saint-the Daily Express would be an empty place without her-oh wait, it still has loads of Diana stories even though she's dead.
update-how about a days memorial shopping to be carried out by publicity seeking bimbos? It's what she would have wanted, gawd bless 'er.....
update no.2 Here's the William Wallace/Mel Gibson sculpture mentioned below

In this country anything is possible, They have a statue to Maggie somewhere I heard. Better still come to my home town (city) of Stirling and have a look, They put up a statue to William Wallace, you know Braveheart, Only problem is it's of Mel Gibson. I kid you not. They had a picture of it on the EHOWA site a couple of weeks ago.

No. Enough is enough. The Memorial Fund has been almost totally discredited, the Diana Fountain is just a joke. Don't let's have another disaster. Mohammed al Fayed has already thoughtfully placed some sort of shrine showing Diana and Dodi entwined. Do we need more?

I agree with carnival queen on this. What a waste of money the fountain was. Diana would have wanted any money in her memory put to good use.

No, I don't think she would have liked that. What they should do is have a fleet of ambulances (one in each major town) equipped with machinery and personnel to tend to road traffic accident victims. Harry and William could be the patrons of a charity to fund this and it could be named after Diana. Anyone think that's a good idea?
