This question is a direct exploration of morality and ethics.

Is it wrong to lie? Do the ends justify the means? If a serial killer is hunting you down and I lie. Do the ends of saving you justify the ends of saving your life?

Is it wrong to kill? Do the ends justify the means? If a pedophile is in your neighbourhood and viciously raping your child. Do the ends of saving your child justify the means of using considerable force to stop the assault.

It is okay, right or acceptable to get an education? If a psychiatrist is using their training to sexually harm a patient, do the ends of using knowledge for harmful purposes justify the means of getting an education?

I don't nessecarily agree with that term the ends justify the means. I look at it a different way and say your only responsible for the effort not the outcome. I mean you could try your very best ask for help understanding a problem, study your butt off and be a bad test taker and do poorly on a test where the ends clearly did not justify the means.
