because......y2 - y1 represents the "RISE" of the line, or the change in the vertical position...{called "delta y" }
and x2 - x1 represents the change in the "RUN", or the horizontal position { called " delta x" } between two points on the line.
Thus slope, m, is defined as the RISE / RUN , or
( y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1), or even thought of as delta y / delta x

y2 is 4 y1 is negative 2. x2 is negative 16 and x1 is 5. use the equation to find slope wich is m. thats should give u the slope to form an equation.

because slope is a measure of the rate of change. in a linear function that is rise over run. the change in the y direction is the rise and is y2 - y1 and the change in the run is the change in the x direction x2 - x1.
you can also get the slope by (y1-y2)/(x1-x2) because you are getting the same signs
make sure you never do this (y2-y1) / (x1 - x2) because you will have the wrong sign for the slope.

the slope is defined as the rise/run between two points. The rise is defined along the y axis and the run is defined along the x axis
so if you have two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2)
the difference in rise would be (y2-y1) or (y1-y2)
and difference in the run is (x2-x1) or (x1-x2)
Which ever you you chose, you must be consistent with pairing the x's and y's. Otherwise when you divide the two terms, you get thecorrect sign. I good sign that you did it wrong is that you calculate a negative slope, but you have a positive one.

because the slope is rise over run you see and the rise of the line is calculated using the difference in the y's because the y's are what rises and the run is calculated using the difference in the x's because the x's are what run across the page

well that's determining the slope from to given points i.e. (6,2) (5,3) where x would be 6,5 and y would be 2,3 so (3-2)/ (5-6) = 1/-1 = -1

because slope is defined as rise over run
That question's kinda like asking why does "two" look like this: 2.
