There is always a little Heaven in Hell and vise versa. Nothing is all good nothing is all bad. Butterfly wings are beautiful but there is still an ugly bug beneath them thus the wisdom lies within the balance and the balance is the wonder of wisdom!

As a grower of a couple of roses, and having grown up with roses, I do not even question the presence of thorns
Having the thorns on the roses is part of what makes a rose a rose. very strong sturdy branches, because the blooms are very heavy.
Without the thorny bark in between the gentler softer parts, the plant could not withstand the weight of the awesome flowers, which comes sometimes as just one gorgeous creation or a bouquet of 20 all in one branch.
My answer is that the thorns makes the rose a rose. Being thorny makes it strong, and strong means " now I can show you what I am truly made of"- and it brings forth a precious lovely rose.
And yes Virginia, when it comes to roses and its thorns, life is fair, absolutely fair.

in this context.... roses have thorns to make things fair, you can't really enjoy good things without the bad.... so that you have some perspective

because some of life has big problems and that represents the thorns, like jesus crown of thorns he wore before he was crucified. so that is why roses have thorn because they are full of beauty when life is good and full of thorns when u get to the bad stuff. have a good day and god bless u and your family...
