The best out there is an 8800Ultra, however it's very expensive. I can make recommendations if you give the price you are looking to pay.

Here's one that catches my eye:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161173
A 1GB card running DDR4 thru a 512bit memory bus!!
It beats the 8800GTX in benchmarks and some believe that when some optimized drivers come out(the card's brand new) it will beat the 768 Ultras too! Its the most hungry video card out so if you opt for it make sure you go with a high watt PSU with massive amps on its +12V rails.

id say the nvidia fx 5200 is pretty good. its relatively cheap (anywhere from 30-80 bucks) and it plays near all games well and its just an all around good card. if u want a lil more oomph i suggest the 512 mb Geforce 8500 GT for about 100 bucks

a sli settup with a couple of 8800gts' would be faster than an 8800 ultra and cheaper to .. a couple of ati 2900s in crossfire wouldnt be too shabby either ..

You can spend over $500 for one. Get the best one that you can afford. Next year they will be better and less expensive.
