I think its probably that some actors get a lot of praise from past films, and then they are allowed to do a risky film because chances are people are going to fill seats to see it. Examples: Herbie, The Grudge, Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000 (ooh John Travolta, why?? You know this movie was made to rival the Star Wars movies. PSH! Battlefield Earth couldn't even rival Blues Clues.)

If I could only get my hands on the people who gave Sweet Home Alabama the green light...

and the people who made me watch it, my family. I've already scolded them for making me watch it and wasting two hours of my life. I should've known better, I already hated Reese Witherspoon before viewing that human excrement that dare calls itself a "movie".

GAWD I HATE REESE WITHERSPOON SO MUCH! >_<

Was Little Man that bad? It looked kinda funny, I never saw it though.

money
with some, the concept can be absolutely brilliant but the script is rewritten/edited and then the producers might wnat changes as well as the director so it can turn into a huge mess.

An example is Island of Dr Moreau (1996) Val Kilmer wanted the original director changed. He got his wish and Kilmer has been quoted to regret his decision for the new director (John Frankenheimer) was worse.

Most of it is money but for some, the script and main idea gets changed which destroys the original idea that got the green light.

some jerk rich fools get the bull rush from some slimy producers and tribal bankers. (very close to two cases - one was "texas chainsaw massacre) hey, it works just like in the classic movie (stage?) "The Producers" with Zero Moestel. First they get a movie script from some struggling wannabe playwright and they think they can sell it. AND THEY DO! No exception.

Well I work with 2 women who hire DVDs and watch pics all the time, but its always stuff like slasher movies or horror, never anything remotely mind stretching. I asked them if they'd seen Amazing Grace, and they looked like I was nuts for even suggesting it. So I guess these shite films are made to appeal to shite audiences who just want to turn their brain cell off for 2 hours.

A little thing called funding. With enough advertisement everybody will have at least heard of the movie therefore more people tend to see it with friends and family.

it's all about who you know i guess.
it also has a lot to do w/ who is going to play the roles in the movies. how many times have you viewed a movie just based on the fact that one of your favorite actors/actresses is in it?
even if the plot is bad, the studios probably bank on at least X million beacuse X has the leading role.

Ok there is no magic power that decided which movies get made and which don't. If anyone in the world puts up the cash to make a movie and they put up the cash to market it... it's going to get made.

It's all for the money in Hollywood! Just give them the idea and if they think it will rake in some bucks then they will give you the green light! I guess quality in movies isn't what it used to be in Hollywood.

At least that's my theory.

because they didn't cost much, they could see that it was an easy return for the investment and the old fave, the golden hand shake (in the know, in the business, in the sack)
