Frank Sinatra. I like the Sid Vicious version, but in more of an ironic way.

I like Sid's version in the same way I like sticking my tongue to a frozen pole. Sometimes it's fun to live dangerously!
But on a serious note, I'd have to go with Franks version. Wasn't it written by Canadian crooner Paul Anka? I've never heard his version, if there even was one. Might be interesting too.

I think Elvis' version is the best with massive props to Frank!! On the Elvis In Concert lp, which is the soundtrack of the CBS special shown after his death, it sounds like he's singing his own eulogy when he's singing it. Very haunting.

Some songs are so strongly aligned with the original artist, they are usually best left uncovered. Of course I said that about Hurt by Johnny Cash and it worked out OK. But Sinatra is the only good choice here.

Frank then Sid

Sid, Frank, Elvis, in that order.

Mind you, there are some live performances by Frank of this song (where he lapses into the "speak the lyrics, don't sing 'em" method), that are worse than Elvis.

At least Sid never did that...
