I always see people eating a huge piece of cake and pushing the frosting off to the side (to save calories). Personally, I would rather have a small piece of cake with lots of frosting.

Which do you suppose has more calories? The bigger piece of cake with no frosting or a smaller piece of cake with lots of frosting!

ME LOVE CAKE!!! I cant ever get enough of both parts of the cake. What is cake without frosting? Nothing that's what and frosting is nothing without cake and if you are going to eat cake why skimp out on the calories, just eat the damn piece of cake. I think that the frosting has more calories in it if it is a butter cream frosting because well the frostingis butter but if it is the frosting in th jar things then the cake has more. It also depends on the size and the kind. Fun question.

Depends on the contents of each. I'd say that the one with the most saturated and/or hydrogenated oils would be the worst one. If the one with the highest fat is also the one highest in sugar, then this one is DEFINITELY the worst.

It also depends on your personal health situation. If you are a diabetic, for example, high sugar would be the biggest risk, so the frosting is worst. If you have a cholesterol problem, the one with the most saturated fat would be especially dangerous. As far as calories go, each cake and frosting is different.

My solution - I always just buy Devil's Food cake mix and make my own fat-free frosting (called "white mountain" frosting). I also put only good oil (veggie oil) in my cake (but you can actually replace the oil with the same amount of sugar-free apple sauce), and I add 3 or 4 egg whites inteads of whole 2 eggs.

I feel less guilty eating my own cake, so I usually just skip the cake when at parties and enjoy my own on occasion. I find that the only people who get offended or call me weird when I refuse the cake are usually also the fattest people in the room. :-)

The one that has the most calories would probably be the small piece of cake with lots of frosting because there's so much more sugar in the frosting.

I usually go for the small pieces with lots of frosting, especially homemade frosting!

The frosting is definitely worse, gram for gram, consisting of two ingredients--lard and sugar.

But the cake itself has these things two. As a diabetic, I still eat cake with frosting and then walk off the extra empty calories.

But, it's the total package you have to look at, not just the components. Pushing the frosting off a large piece of cake is like drinking diet coke while you gorge at a buffet.

If a cake has to be smothered in 3 inches of frosting, it's usually a lousy tasting cake. However, the bathtub caulk they use for frosting is 10 times worse.

In all honesty, it really shouldn't matter what you eat and how much you eat unless you have a thyriod problem or a disease. (isn't that was diabetese is being called now? a disease?) most people forget what excersize is. so, next time you want a piece of cake you didn't make, have a small piece, if the frosting is rich and sweet and generally pleasant to your mouth, your going to want to spit it out and just eat the cake. or do what i do and eat a dead cow sprinkled with dead plants and crushed rocks and your good to go. right up to the point you die of a heart attack at the ripe age of 26. (i love eating dead animals)

The frosting. Yes, they are both bad but the frosting is filled with much more calories and sugar. But what is cake with no frosting? To me, both must be eaten together!!

I love eating frosting straight out of the container, but I wouldn't eat a frosting that is made with shortening. That's like eating a big spoonful of 'pure fat'. Eating the frosting from the can isn't bad for you if you eat it in small quantities, but it does contain alot of sugar and preservatives.

I love the frosting and would leave the majority of the cake most of the time. The best things in life are sweet and tasty! Enjoy every desert! That is why I don't want to date an excercise freak... eat desert with dinner.

You rock Dulcie!
