I thought that was common knowledge but people go on and on about German engineering but all their cars are pieces of crap with nice interiors.

I own an Audi A4 2000. The car is really complex piece of engineering. If this was for NASA it would be a nice piece of equipment. But given it is meant for every day use, it is too complex and too expensive to maintain.

And the car is surprisingly delicate and breaks easy. My steering rack is shot and it will cost me something like $2000 to get it fixed. On most cars the rack is under the car and fairly easily removed and replace. But not the Audi A4.

Every thing cost about $1000 or more to fix on my Audi. One of the reason is that Audi parts are extraordinarily expensive (ex: $800 for replacement cat converter). The other reason is that labor is about $125 per hour (here in NYC). The last reason is that because the car is complex it take LONGER to do any repair.

The A4 is especially a expensive to repair. It has (1) 4 wheel drive (2) turbo. These are 2 extra technology not normally used on compact cars. The engine bay is cramped and most of the time, I have to remove half the engine parts to do any simple replacement. I can usually do all the simple (and few minor complex) repairs on my Civic (and I've even done a clutch job on my friend's Integra). But not on the Audi.

All things considered, I would NOT buy Audi again... ever.

Good luck.

I drive an Audi as well, and it has its fair share of issues, but it seems to me that your case is an extreme one ( A transmission replacement @ 66k? Ouch). Dont be so closeminded; just because you have a bad experience doesnt mean every1 has. I have seen Audis that go past 200k and I have seen Honda's with 30k that are constantly in the shop. All those links that you posted do indicate that Audi's have issues, but look for the ones against BMW and Mercedes; there are even more (consumeraffiars.com, mercedesproblems.com just to list a coupla of the bigger ones). I can understand your frustration, but it seems that the bigger problem is the customer service, which Audi ranks pretty high, its just that you have the bad luck to go to a dealership that sucks. I know you probably wont buy an Audi again, but BMW's and Mercedes' are just as bad, if not worse. If you want reliability and customer service in a luxury car, Lexus towers over every1 else, even though they tend to have a chick car image. And JP, your fulla crap; Audi's are the most dependable german car over BMW's and Benzes, which are actually the worst. Consumer Reports found this out, so do your research before you spew excrement over the Internet. Dont be jealous that you cant afford a nice german car.

I drive a 2000 Audi A6, and I've been driving with the engine light ON for the past 5 months, I'm not sure which is worse: the danger of driving with an engine light ON, or keep digging money (thousands of dollar) out of my pocket to repair the car sothat a few weeks later, the engine light comes on again.
Either way, I will never, never, never buy an Audi again. I understand your frustration.

Wow!! No love for the Vdub??

I absolutely love my VW. I have a '01 NB Tdi and I have barely had any problems. I've owned 2 other VWs that were also trouble free, aside from normal wear and tear.

VWs are finicky, though. You really need to follow the maintenance schedule. VWs are known to have their quirks and some people just have bad experiences. On the whole they are great cars that are fun to drive.

I personally think any Chevy is a POS.

lol, I thought pretty much every car aficionado know this already. Only the really stupid ones would buy VW(terrifically garbage quality), Audi(quality ranks at the bottom), BMW(not much better), and Daimler(only slightly better).

Their primary target market are rich dumb women and technically challenged men who love a nice looking car and don't find shedding out 10K a year just a maintenance an d repair. I take it back, more like 20K. LOL, pure stupidity.
