China is in Africa for economic reasons and is not doing it militarily, but rather diplomatically.
America is in Iraq for economic reasons and is doing it militarily.
I like China's way better.
That is as simple as it gets.

Iraq had nothing to do with 911
Tianamen Square happened over 18 years ago.
What has happened since? Tainted dog food, lead paint, all of which were not government sanctioned.
And you tell me to get a grip?
OK, how about gripping this, China is much of what you want her to be and little of what you think she is. How do I know? I'm an ex pat living here who believed the same crap you believed.
Now I know better

The grass is greener and I feel safer.
Safer because China is not threatened by terrorists
Greener because China plans for the future whereas we have no plans, we just muddle along.

I am neither independently wealthy or work for a big company. I work for a state run college drawing a salary.
I have never felt the government being intrusive in peoples lives in any place I've been in China. I find them to be less intrusive then in the states.
How do I know this? I talk to people and don't form my opinions from observation, that is often mistaken because it is based on western perception.

Yes, the US is lead by rich interests while China is lead by the people's interests. Neither is perfect, but I am ashamed to be from the US. I can't wait for the election to try to change things.
I am also jealous of people living in China, where I want to be! I wish I were you, Jim!

I have learnt a lot from YA that everybody thought their own country is the best or they have the best way and want other to follow..but to me China and USA is like an individual; like to you are going to a tailor to tailor made a suit that suits you best. ALthough I do not agreed on some method China have used ie 6/4 case but I think at that time it is the best method. Sometimes we have to considered the country as a whole..westerner always yells why China is inhumane and communist..DO you think China people is ready to talk about human right or democratic yet..(Human right and democratic are for the developed country with fair level of edcuation that people could decide and vote who they think is best . Human right are for those rich country that has nothing much to do )This is not a criticisim but let view the population and ask yourself how many had that level to talk about human right or democratic. The educated one are just a small percentage out of the billion people. If China were to open up in the 80s, I think riots and starvation is the problem China have deal with now.
However, I have confident and could see China is really opening gradually and I hope all ppl in China could followed up ..quickly...too! cheers

Since Taiwan is "a part of China" according to some idiots, I'll answer this one. In Taiwan, the color sequence of traffic lights is exactly the same as in the USA; there is no "extra yellow" between red and green. Perhaps you are thinking of how they look for the yellow light given to the cross traffic, so they can "jump the red light" here, entering (and sometimes even crossing) the intersection before ever receiving a green light. This is how many traffic accidents are caused here. I have no idea why they are in such a hurry all the time. Ugh! @George - It's the first time you made me laugh. Thanks. LOL

Do 18 months in Guangzhou and 14 months in Shenyang qualify me to have an opinion?
I found Liaoning Province (Shenyang) and Guangdong Province (Guangzhou) to be as different as night and day. The climates, the congestion and the people are all like being in different countries, not just different provinces.
They both had one thing in common though. They both had a very strong government presence. Oversight was very intrusive and the people made a very vigilant and constant effort to be unnoticed. They all knew that being noticed was a very bad thing.
Excuse me for assuming here, but you have to either be independently wealthy and not actually PART of the culture you enjoy, or you’re working for an American company and enjoy being catered to because there’s something for which you are being exploited.
I’m sure the certain knowledge you’d be executed for communicating anything negative about your surroundings has NOTHING whatever to do with your glowing observations.
Finally, if you really mean all the anti-American smoke you’re blowing our way, I’m thrilled that you’ve found a home where you actually belong.
Have a good life and prosper.

China is poisoning the world.
America is in Iraq to stop terrorism and tyrany.
China's economy is only beginning to improve because they are turning to capitalism. America has an incredible economy.
Chinese people prosper in every country in the world where there are Chinese people, except one: Red China.
China runs tanks over it's people. America spends billions in foreign aid.
Just how is China better than America?
Peace, Freedom, and Prosperity.

Yeah, China is so politically sensitive and conscientious to Africa. They just turn their heads from the Genocide happening in Darfur while they buy the majority of Sudan's oil.
Here's another difference between China and the USA. We don't chop the heads off our CEOS if they steal from the companies they run. And, another one is that we don't cut the heads off protestors like they did with Tien amen square protestors.
The U.S has many many problems that is for sure and one of them is being in Iraq and it was damn wrong for invading that country. And, we have our own human rights abuses issues that is really shameful. But please don't make China out to look like a viable alternative when they perpetuate alot of human rights abuses in their own country.
