I think it is fear of the unknown and that their religious beliefs will be then put to the test...
I don't recall ever fearing death, and I have had 2 near death experiences in my time here..
In fact I will embrace it when I am out of sand, I will then go back home and analyse the lessons I learnt in that life..
Blessed Be... )O(

I don't think people are necessarily afraid of death alone. Rather, they are more or less fearful of the way in which they are going to die. When you ask most people, "How do you want to die?" more often than not they will reply, "In my sleep." Death is unknown; it's mysterious and the fact is, you don't really know what you're getting into until your time comes. Some people ponder about the mysteries of death: "Is there such a thing as the afterlife? Where will my soul go; to some higher plane or will it stay to roam the earth?" The fact is, nobody actually knows because the dead don't talk.

Conditioning mostly, I'd say. That, and the fact they know they aren't doing any significant living of the lives they have.
Maybe they figure if they live long enough they'll unplug the televisions and do something else.
Or maybe they just don't care to consider the fact that for a person prone to fear, there's a lot more to fear in life than there is in death.

Your right people fear death. Which for the most part this particular fear is natural.
At my age of 53, I fear death not for myself, but for my family. I like everyone else would like to be around to make sure they are taken care of.
Seems people under 40 look back at the time they have lived. And people over 50 start counting the time they have left.

I think because it's the end of their life here on Earth.
I got over my fears of death after reaching a low of lowest points from a health problem. I was so sick and I know the closest I've been to death but I fought to survive and rise up. If I survived that I can survive the death experience.

Fear of not knowing what's beyond death... Fear of one's life coming to an end at any moment. There are plenty of reasons why one might fear death.
I, for one, do not fear death... I find it quite idiotic to fear something inevitable. You'll live your life constantly in fear of dying that your life will be worthless and meaningless and only full of fear of something that will happen whether you fear or worry about it or not.
How I'd like to go is peaceful... Not necessarily in my sleep, but just without pain and suffering. However, one can only hope, and death does not go by said hope majority of the time.

Well because it is the unknown. The unknowable, to some the end of existence, They leave everything they have/had. For some it is the uncontrollable, the if factor. They fear leaving their families, their friends. But to live forever is not possible, so live life to the fullest!!

Because they have a fear of leaving everything the whole dear behind, never seeing the people they love or doing the thing (s) they love doing, being forgotten, you know?

I am getting old now and have seen most all my family die. and never were they afraid at all.to die.because they were all true Christians.and had undoubting Faith.having faith is vitally important.
i especially don't fear death now.after mother told me about when her mother was in the nursing home. she had cancer and mother was reading to her mother and suddenly Ma Ma's eyes got bright. she smiled. raised her hands up and cried out Jesus!! and passed on.I will welcome the death of this body.because i know where i am going. hopefully with Faith i pray.
when Pa Pa died he said i hope i was right.but he wasnt afraid.
we really want know till we get there.

^They fear the unknown. I don't fear my own death, but I do fear the death of a loved one.
