I asked this question after hearing my mom and friends cry over the Michael Vik incident. When I asked them about animal testing/ factory farming they Pooh- poohed it completely. " Oh, that's nonsense, that doesn't really happen."
I am NOT implying that every single person feels this way.
I am just confused by their concern for these dogs and lack thereof for other animals.

I think people are naive as to what goes on in the food and drug industry. The Michael Vick situation has made me decide to go vegetarian and start purchasing cruelty free products.

I was responding to emails with petitions to sign to convict Vick and after viewing the websites those petitions took me to, I realized how naive I was on the cruelty to animals in food production.

We can all make a difference in our own way. We just have to open our eyes to what is really going on in the world.

Factory farms and animal testing serve some useful purposes, food and medicine. Dog fighting doesn't. But if you're concerned about hypocrisy:

Who’s killed more animals? Vick (8) or PETA (14,400):

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) loves to point the finger at others, when they should be looking at their own record of killing more than 90% of the animals left in their care. According to government records PETA has killed more than 14,400 animals since 1998.

I don't know, why are some ( infact MANY!) people more concerned about abused animals than they are abused children????

And btw I'm more concerned about factory farms and there effects on HUMANS than the death of these pit bulls... which they killed anyways... BUT I can understand why people think it's disgusting for someone to kill animals in such a cruel manor, that means he has no respect for life, and it's shocking for us to see that in a supposed to be "role model".

Because Michael Vic is supposed to be a role model to kids not drowning, electrocuting and slamming dogs into the ground on his offdays. We all know that animal testing isn't a good thing but there isn't a single kid I know of who says "one day I want to be an animal tester" but there are millions who say "one day I want to be like Michael Vic."

How do you know that each and every person who is upset with Michael Vick killing dogs isnt just as upset about all of the other animal atrocities? When you have personally met every person that fits this description, then ask the question.

The animals tortured/killed by Vick and his boys were for entertainment purposes. Animals killed to test drugs help save human lives. There's a difference, or are you prepared to tell someone they cannot use life-saving drugs because animals were killed in its testing?

Because Vik is a black, rich athlete...how dare him!

This is the sad truth, I'm not saying the man was right, but must he really give up everything he has worked for? Martha Stewart didn't have to...

They are concerned. It might not be everyone, but there are some people. Besides people view dogs differently than than cows, chickens, and pigs.
