I don't think there is any more violence now than when I was growing up in the 1980's.
The big difference is then people just got beaten up and it didn't warrant national media coverage so the level of violence then was not immediately apparent.
The big difference now is todays youths carry guns and knives, so instead of getting a kicking and maybe a black eye or broken bones, kids are getting killed.

I think you should spend some time over here in Britain ... Yes we have violence but nothing like you have in America.... We can go to school or work and its just a normal day no stabbings or shootings ... you as many more people just see what is reported on the news.... what about all the community activities that go on and all the fun that is had by all .... come on if your looking for trouble it will come looking for you ... enjoy life and hopefully things will be fun... however you do find that somethings are out of your control... and unfortunately you cannot change them....

Yes Britain is more violent. This is caused by poor parenting, poor standard of discipline in schools (government's fault for banning teachers from laying a hand on a student) and a lenient attitude by the courts to all offences (violence, sexual assault, street robbery) that don't involve drugs. I knew a person duped into carrying a small amount of cocaine back from Jamaica - they genuinely had no idea they were carrying drugs - but received an 11 years jail sentence

The media tends to latch onto a subject and it ends up looking far worse than it really is. Yes there is a problem with out of control youngsters, some places are worse than others. Unfortunately the UK isn't that family orientated compared to other European country's whose incidents of anti social behaviour are considerably less than ours and the police seem incapable of doing anything even when they bother to actually turn up to an incident. If we could fix these two problems it would make a huge difference.

as a thirteen year old living in england i can safely say you are right. the way british youth is turning out is not only horrific and dangerous, but to me very frightening. from and over sea view it probably seems like english kids are spoilt brats with nothing else to do then hang around in street corners and stone police cars while drunk on barcardi breezers. so, that's my view, yeah basically, my peers are getting more viloent. there have been 17 murders of teenager by other teenage gangs so far this year. it is disgusting. i cannot imagine who would want to waste their life getting asbo's and spitting on the luxury of an english education.

Since people first existed there have been those who are at times violent. We just hear about it more now. Young people are no better or worse than previous generations, though each generation seems to think their behaviour was not as bad.

Yes it has got worse - more so since the government opened Britain's doors to all and sundry. Alot of the violence is race related. I am not proud to be British anymore I can tell you.

Yes they are more violent!! Why? Becasue there are a bunch of faceless, nameless, stupid, bleeding heart liberal politically correct a*ssholes who say we are not "allowed" to discipline children verbally, physically, emotionally or by any form of punishment that would work. We can only sit back and watch these "poor little people" exercise their 'Right' to create anarchaic chaos without ANY form of retribution or even education as to why their actions are wrong!
The UK is being run by fools and 'society' no longer exists over here!!!!

I don't think so. We had a shooting here in Vancouver, BC - two chaps walked into a restaurant - shot and killed 4, 6 in hospital. Man committed suicide last week - after killing his wife a month ago, on and on it goes. Its everywhere.
