I have auto insurance, but no bike yet, so I have no motorcycle insurance. If I ride my friend's bike, will his insurance cover me? Or does my auto insurance cover me? Or am I not covered unless I have motorcycle insurance? Can you even get motorcycle insurance without a bike?

Your auto insurance won't cover.
Check with your friend about his policy. That's the only way to know if his will.

My policy covers me and passengers.
Covers me on someone else's motorcycle.
Covers any licensed operator I give permission to (like that ever happens!!)

Tamarack is on the right track. I don't know where you ride, you didn't say. But I need extra insurance just to carry a passenger! (Florida.) My bike, unlike a car, can't be used by just any member of the family. My policy only covers me. It covers maintence rides by mechanics, but not just giving a buddy the keys.

You would probably be resposible for any repair costs, injuries, etc., if you don't carry your own policy. In this state you can't get insurance for a bike without the company having a VIN number. You need a bike for that.

You could get a general insurance policy, but they are very costly. And a general usually requires a minimum income, If you can cover a general, you can afford a bike. If your friend is really a friend, don't ride his bike. If something happens to you, you will both lose out.

Your friend may or may not have a "no matter who's driving" (obviously a very technical term) policy but I doubt it as that's rare to have. But if he does then you can ride no problem. It's just like you driveng someone elses car.

YOu auto insurance most likely does not cover you. No you can't get motorcycle insurance if you don't have a bike.

If you do have auto insurance check with your company. It may cover you no matter what you drive or maybe you can add that.

or----you could just ride and hope nothing happens...

yup u can ride the bike no probs you got a license though. your friends motor cycle insurance would basically cover the bike damages incase you crash. if you ahve life insurance you need not worry cause it will cover you as well. Mainly dude forget bout all this. Just enjoy the ride.

He will have to check with his insurance. They may have a restriction on who can be covered by his policy.
