We've all heard the horror stories of little darlings, running amuck, unsupervised, throwing temper tantrums, misbehaving in every possible way and parents who do nothing about it. There are arguments for and against bringing kids to Sin City. What's your opinion?

I actually have to make a decesion about this soon..I have a 16 month old son and I am planning a trip for my brothers 21st birthday party. I think that when you are going to Vegas to do nothing but gamble, drink and party, then there is no reason you should bring a child along, they will have no fun becuase they cannot do anything with us. If you are going there for other reasons, which I am not sure what they would be then yes, take your children as long as you can give them some time to have fun and do "child" activities with them.

LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME!
Sorry, but it's the truth.
Even though there is a lot for kids & families to do....Sin City is not a place for children.
They will be exposed to a whole lot of second-hand smoke, sex, gambling, alcohol and drunkeness.
And plus, you're going to do a TON of walking along the strip, which will be too much for their little legs.
They will get tired & winey and want to go back to the hotel.
As an adult, you'll want to check out the shows and clubs...which you simply can't do when you've got the kids

So with all that said, leave the kids with the grandparents and go have a good time!

If you can, leave young children at home. Most shows won't allow young kids (under 8 or 5) even for family friendly shows.

Also, they won't be allowed to stay in the casino areas of the hotels so it may mean tag team parenting and that's no fun.

I've seen young kids there, but mostly are bored or asleep because they are being dragged everywhere.

With that said though, I do know a couple that have taken their children ever since they were babies. But they stay where they can use nanny services so the kids are entertained while the parents go out.

First time we went we had the kids. Huge mistake. Especially if you have any interest at all in gambling as kids can walk through the casino's, but nothing nore. They can;t watch you play etc. The hotels do have babysitting, but it's expensive and would you want to leave your kids with someone you did not know?

They were cranky and miserable and we did not have much fun either.

If they are older there are things you can do with them, but at night I would not be out and about with them.

Since they are grown we go on our own and have a great time. We go at least once a year. Most people you see with kids especially young kids don;t seem to be having too much fun.

There is also a lot that goes on that kids should not see especially after dark so unless you want to sit in your room all evening it's best to leave the kids at home.

Well, this one has to be a personal choice. There are a lot of grown up things that kids will be exposed to, no matter how hard you try. Do you mind explaining to your kids about these things, or would you be horrified at the prospect?

And, contrary to popular belief, there are zillions of family oriented activities in Vegas. Lied Discovery Children's Museum, Las Vegas Natural History Museum, Scandia Family Fun Center, the M&M Factory, Star Trek: The Experience, a visit to Circus Circus and its Adventuredome, Caesar's Palace's IMAX theater, the Secret Garden of Siegfried and Roy and Dolphin Habitat, the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, GameWorks, various go-kart establishments, Wet n' Wild water park...

Not to mention the many child-appropriate shows: Lance Burton, Mac King, Tournament of Kings (Excalibur), Cirque Du Soleil's Mystere, Siegfried and Roy...

And don't forget that nearby there is the Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, and the Grand Canyon, among others.

So... should you bring the kids? Why the heck not? As long as the parents are willing to explain or otherwise deal with the occasional "Hot XXX Live Girls" flier that gets left on the street, Vegas can be great fun for the whole family.

What would the argument be for bringing kids to Las Vegas?

There's no reason to bring kids there except if you can't find/afford a babysitter, and want to go anyway. In my opinion that's being pretty selfish. There's nothing for kids to do there; if you're bringing kids you will either be leaving them alone unsupervised (not safe and not fair to kids) or bringing them to places that are inappropriate for children (same comment applies). This is not a family vacation spot.

I'm 20 and have been going to vegas w/ my family just about every year for the last 10 years at least...

it's always been fun for me and my twin sister. the gamblers (mom & dad and 1 older sisters) will go spend some time in the casino's while the rest of us would find something fun to do... go catch an under 18 magic show, visit the M&M's factory and arcade thing... or go to circus circus... we'd always be sure to catch something to do with the gamblers in the group too like meet up at certain times to go shopping along the strip or at the outlets close to the strip... even visited the hoover dam, or walk about the strip and definately get some time in at the awesome buffett's.

& for the last couple of years that we've gone we've even taken my older sisters daughter who is now 3 yrs old. and since that sister has never been into gambling and it's still been fun.

So taking a kids isn't always bad. it's only bad if you're going to leave them unsupervised or with nothing to do/look forward to...

I think that Las Vegas is better for adults only. If parents must bring their kids then they need to be prepared to entertain them. The casino security staff will not allow children to linger in the gaming areas so they can't hang out while their parents gamble. I wouldn't bring a child but that's just me.

I was there this year, and I'm glad I didn't bring my son. There are things you see just walking down the street that kids shouldn't be exposed to, at least in my opinion. I don't think that anyone would pick Vegas for a family vacation. Take the kids to Disney, or a water park, they'll enjoy themselves. Save Vegas for the parents getaway.

My opinion? Leave 'em home with Grampa and Gramma to be spoiled. Seriously. If for no other reason that it can be a hassle to find a trusted babysitter (even though *some* casinos have access to them) so the grownups can go out and have fun on their own. IMO - it's not fair to the parents to have the kids in tow all the time so they can't enjoy themselves, and it's not fair to the kids to leave them with someone they don't know, and may not like, in a strange city.

Do something special with the kids, but leave Vegas to the grownups.
