A talent agent represents clients as a go between to decipher offers or jobs he/she thinks are good for you.

A casting agent 'casts' actors in parts of production in film, tv, commercials. A casting agent is not a talent agent.

If you were to go to an audition, you would see sitting for your audition, the producer (finances the project), casting/agent and or director.

... If you wish to be discovered...
You need to live where the production companies are located. Hence Los Angeles or New York. There are really two types of actors, one for film/tv and one's for theater I would suggest having someone film with a video digital camera to determine how you look on film. Many actors have also become famous thru modeling.
I don't think you need to attend acting school if you have natural talent or have an interest in theater. Otherwise, make a video of yourself and send it out to agents and studio's. It's a long shot but at least you are getting your name out there.

As far as rank...
the producer comers before the director, who comes before the casting agent. The producer hires the director {or the studio does}, the director can then hire a casting agency. sometimes the studio does. But, the producer is over all the other players except the studio representative. Sometimes they are the same person

Good luck :8)

:-)
Talent Agency will have real, honest to goodness, Agents to represent you when and if you receive an offer for a part; or will help you obtain auditions.

A Casting Agent is usually hired by the Producer/Director to cast the parts for a particular vehicle, such as a TV Show, a movie, etc. Casting Agent is not a Talent Agency.

If you want to get into acting, start at the local level where most people outside the business (i.e. with no relative in the business) begin. Local Little Theatre, Repertory Theatre, Summer Stock, high school, college. And study, study, study, work hard, know your stuff ... be well versed and able to converse intelligently about the craft you want to make your career.

Good luck.

Most casting agents don't get you any work. Real agents do not charge for anything.

Knowing the differemce is not going to get you into acting, only long, hard work will do that.
