I have to write a speech on abortion and I have been looking for some websites to provide the history as well as some background info on it. Also Im not sure if when writing a speech, you are supposed to include your personal beliefs? I personally am Pro-life but am not trying to offend anyone in my speech by pushing my beliefs on them . Although, I was looking for one sort of touching excerpt to put in my paper. For example, I read once where it said " if you had two deaf children and two blind, would you abort your next child?" and if you said yes, then you would have just aborted beethoven": or something like that. I appreciate any help. Thanks♥♥♥

If you are writing a speech then I imagine you have time constraints. Speeches are an average of three to eight minutes in length. When you go to the web to look up info put in key words Pro Life and Pro Abortion...you will get a ton of information and some of it very dramatic. When you give your speech you preface it by stating your sources which takes the need for you to state your personal opinion out of the equation. You need to give equal time to each side. Keep in mind that the topic is abortion not contraception or adoption or any other ideas so be careful that you don't slip and slide into those areas. If this is a speech the object is probably how able you are to talk about the subject only without getting emotional - just state the facts as you find them - and don't worry about offending others; the point is to follow the directions for the speech and get it straight for a good grade -- right? -- look what kind of responses you got here just asking some general questions and using your little heart handle. Also when giving the speech don't for get to identify quotes and cite the source. The more you cite your sources the better the speech will be and the less people can assume your belief system. Also be sure to practice in front of a mirror, if allowed made neat tidy notes on index cards and be sure to time your speech so you don't go under....going under is worse than going a little bit over. Good luck.

There is a lot of information on the websites regarding abortion and it's history so you should have no trouble finding that. As far as your personal beliefs, I would certainly include them in your speech. Tell them how you feel about it and how you are Pro-Life and why. Then you could talk about how others feel about abortion. You could explain that you feel that people use abortion as a form of birth control, which is very often the case. I believe as you do, I think there are many who wish they could conceive and can't and that there are other options to having an abortion. Many would love to adopt and it would be something to consider if you were pregnant. I also believe that when someone goes through an abortion, they are left with guilt and remorse after the fact. A fetus is a baby and abortion is the destruction of life.

You can have your speech about abortion itself the facts without being mean, pro or against it. You can give two short stories that are true. one telling a good experience, one telling a bad one. Then you can say this is what I thnk and say it. You don't have to be mean. Juts be honest of how you feel. Besides, it's a class project, your not one on one trying to tell someone else beleive what I think.

I bet others will try to sell their own beliefs of other stuff to the class and not be afraid of offending anyone.

Abortion is an old way to put an end to a baby--it was hush hush and done in back rooms with coathangers by dirty make believe doctors. Women used to feel shame by having babies without marriage--or babies from incest or rape--there were many reasons for abortions and they often ended in death--thousands of dead women were the reason for laws--the laws were made to protect a woman who wanted one--the reasons are personal and always private. It is no ones business if a lady wants one. Moral issues came from the church--and that caused guilt issues. Clean, sanitary operating rooms and legal clinics offered abortion and the death rate fell. Millions of women have abortions--and they all have their own reasons. I think a paper on this is an attempt to inform young people on how deadly they were to the mothers and that laws made it safer for those that chose to have one--FOR THEIR OWN REASONS. The religious aspect or the moral aspect is completely personal--do not say how you believe..it is no ones business. It is a woman's right to choose and the law should have nothing to do with that decision--otherwise we will have backroom coathanger abortions again. if you say how you believe--it will only be a bad discussion that you don't need. It goes back to ancient Greece but the US legal part came in the 70s. 2/3s of the world has abortion by request available.

I am trying to figure out why you put a heart in front of and behind the word abortion. I am pro-choice, but I certainly wouldn't put a heart anywhere in my statement. If you are writing a speech, it is going to be expressing your own opinion. Even if you tried to stay unbiased, your own ideas will just come through. Just go with it.

I would never have an abortion, but I would defend any woman's choice to do what she wishes with her body.

Start it off with agreat Mother Theresa quote. Someone once asked her why there wasn't yet a cure for all the aids-ridden babies and mothers. She said it was because the baby meant to have the cure was aborted.

that makes everyone think.

and then state some facts, not bs. and repeat the quote from MT at the end.It ties the whole thing together and sticks in peoples minds. Guaranteed A.

This is an EXTREMELY thorny subject. I would suggest speaking to your teacher or professor to find out the parameters of the speech. It is also important to know who you will be delivering the speech to. If you are addressing a room full of "pro-life" people, then you can slant the speech toward them. If you are speaking to pro-choice or mixed group of individuals, you will have to decide whether to inject your personal beliefs into the speech. Whether or not to inject personal opinion depends heavily on who you will be delivering the speech to.

I doubt you should put your personal beliefs in a factual report on abortion. Your beliefs are not facts, but only opinions. I too am pro-life and am glad to see another person who supports this. Good luck.
