my internet was not working properly and i tried another modem on the cable i was using and had the same problems so i tried to plug another cable chord for like my tv into the modem and it started smoking and doesnt work at all now. what happened? is it borken permanently?

no, it was a coaxel cable, like a cable chord, from which cable tv comes out. the kind you plug into your tv.

i actually unplugged it from a tv with working cable, the cable was fine, and a working router i borrowed from someone had the same problem as the one i fried, so i dont think anything was wrong with it, i think it was either the cable i was using originally(why i tried this little expirament) or somethings wrong with my cable company

You should ONLY plug the cable modem into the cord that is coming from outside your building.

You most likely plugged it into a cord that was either not grounded properly or was used for another purpose and it shocked the modem and FRIED IT.

The modem is dead, if you rent it from your cable company...just tel them it broke. If you bought the modem, you are out of luck unless it is still under warranty. Don't tell them you plugged it in the wrong cord by the way!

It sounds like you applied too much voltage to the circuit board and destroyed it.

Do not randomly plug and unplug cords into electronics; this can destroy things.

There is a good chance that the cord was bad, and or your modem was bad already.

are you saying you plugged it into a different power source?
