I learned to control what I do in dreams. When I'm in a nightmare I can actually go around in my dream, looking around for a gun or knife to kill myself with, so that I wake up. I realize I'm dreaming and I know the only way to get out of the scary dream is to kill myself. And when I do, I wake up. Is that possible?

You don't have total control in dreams. Some dreams will wake you up no matter what you do.

I question your question. You state what you know from experience and ask if it's possible, why did you do that ?

Yeah, people can control their dreams, it's called Lucid Dreaming. I think there is an Institute of Lucid Dreaming, try looking it up. Most people become aware of this from early childhood. My first lucid dream was when I was 7.
Sound like what you need is to learn to change the backdrop of your dream. I don't know the degree of control you have but if you are good at it consider flying away from the murderer or whoever is after you in your dream.
An exercise I read to help control your dreams is by doing something repetitious in your waking life, say chewing gum, or flipping your hands over and over. Once in your dream if you do this motion you can regain control of your dream. Of course much easier said than done!
Last time I tried, I kept on telling myself that the 3 men after me with knifes were really my friends. I kept on trying to get the backdrop to change but it wouldn't and eventually I woke up. Good luck!

yes, empty your mind, and clear your conscious.... think about nature.. and then your dreams will not be as bad.... also... dreams are your subconciuos.. the thoughts you hide away during the day become releases during the night.. and appear in your dreams....

Well, dreams are created by the mind, so yeah, why not.
