No, its stored onto your hard drive. Make sure you unplug the power or toggle the power supply off before you do the upgrade because you still have power to the motherboard even with the computer turned off.
If your 1GB you just bought is faster than the 192 you have in it now pull the 192 out because your ram will only run at the speed of the slowest ram and your system will run better with just 1GB of faster ram in it than 1.192 of slower ram. Make sure you line up the notch on the ram to your slot. You should hear a click at each end of the stick when the ram seats. When you fire your machine up it will take a little longer to boot because the bios is reconfiguring your memory. If you get beep codes you have a problem.

Your files are not stored on the memory. They are stored on the hard drive of your computer. Every time you turn off your computer, the meory is completely cleared, so if changing the memory was going to lose anything, you would already be losing it each time you shut down the computer.

Whether you will have to remove some (or all) of the 192 mb of memory depends on whether there is an open slot for the new memory. If not, you will need to remove some of the old memory.

Whether they will work together depends on if they are the same type and speed of memory. Something you did not list in the posting.

The thing is your music is stored on your harddrive and your ram (random Access memory) is used to access the data quickly. I take it that your computer is probably running slow with only 192mb or ram. And no you dont need to save your music or uprade since it is all on your harddrive. i dont know your setup, but all you would have to do is replace the 1gb ram with the 192mb ram.

No. All your files live on your hard disk.

You are upgrading your ram. Have you checked the ram you bought is compatible with your system, as there are different types that fit in different sockets.

You will have 128 + 64MB sticks. If you have purchased 2 * 512MB sticks then you will probably need to remove your existing ram.

Your RAM doesn't have anything saved in it, all your files are on your hard disk. Just take out the old RAM and put the new 1gb stick in and you're good to go.

Your files will be safe. Just install the new memory, and you're good to go.

Please shut the machine down before you do this.

That process will insure that everything important is saved to disk before you do the upgrade.

depends on what system you are upgrading. A pc, then no. A mp3 player, then yes.
