Not necessary. Like when someone decides not to waste his life but fight to gain the opportunities that hadn't been given to him and in the end he achieves his dreams just because he believed that he could the time that everyone was against him. Well, that might be the greatest achievement in one's life

Yes. We are all mortal,so self-serving acheivements are of limited duration. A lasting contribution to the general population is obviously an acheivement of greater caliber.

Not necessarily, some people are not appreciative of anything done for their benefit,so they are not deserving. When someone does something for our benefit, it could entail effort and self-lessness on their part, so we should appreciate it.
