i felt like i danced just as good as the video chics. But now I'm 26 and about 40 lbs heavier (a have a 4 month old) and its so depressing i cant dance worth a damn. It seems like my body cant make the quick jerky movements and my balance is way off. I'm a person that totally loves to dance but now it just makes me feel old. Is it age or weight thats affecting me. I mean if i lose weight and get toned up do u still think i'll be dancing this poorly. are there any other women that experienced this in their mid 20's

if you lose weight and get back in shape, you should do a lot better. somethings, our bodies just can't do after we hit a certain point. getting old might suck, but its part of life and you have to deal with it.

26? Old? Oh please...Unless you were top class professional dancer or contortionist, it's not your age that's a problem.

What you feel now is called "out of practice and out of shape" in the dancer's world. They only way to get back in shape is start doing it again and not judge yourself every second. You need to be patient with yourself. In just one year, your body is renewing itself so much you can think of it as if you get a completely new body. So you can't really expect that 5 years later your new body will know how to do the old tricks. As for new tricks - they build on old tricks, and you've missed 5 years of building. Good news is, it doesn't take that long to catch up.

Yes, I've experienced what you're experiencing now. And I had a weight problem on top of it like you do. What helped me is getting into different style of dance and starting to take classes in this style. Classes gave me structure, and everyone else was a beginner in the class too, so I didn't feel as crappy.

Here is another way to look at it. When you were 21 you danced like a 21 year old. And your expectations were according to your age. We grow and our tastes develop to a new level. Now you have higher standards for yourself.

What I'm getting at - stop judging yourself, give yourself a break and start dancing. Don't wait to slim down first. Dancing shouldn't be contingent upon weight loss. Dance and get in shape at the same time.

im 14 but my dance teacher says that after you hit your mid 20s its harder to do a lot of stuff that you were able to do when you were younger regardless of giving birth or not

just get in shape and you'll be moving like lighting...age may affect some-what but if you put your body to it then nothing should stop you...besides 26 is not old
