Well, I've used Toshiba, Dell, Apple, HP, and IBM (Lenovo). I would say overall either IBM or Apple. Out of all the laptops I've used, supported, fixed, etc. those 2 were overall most stable and least troublesome, lasted the longest, etc.

Acer is a very inexpensive alternative to buying from Dell or HP. They offer the same product as them but for hundereds of dollars less. I work at walmart and we sell Acer, HP, Dell, and Toshiba computers, but for your money Acer is the best deal.

Just make sure that the laptop you buy has AT LEAST 1gb of RAM for vista. Also keep in mind that none of the computers these days come with MS Office installed so you will have to buy it or steal it if you are using it for work or school.

Good luck.

Apple as you can multi boot, journalled filing system, decent prices etc etc.

If you are purely after a windows based system then it depends on personal preference, amount of cash you are willing to fork out and what you're requirements are for the machine.

Dell, HP, IBM , Sony are all good makes including Acer.

Very tricky question with XYZ answers, very subjective like: I like Dell...I like IBM - which is not even IBM, any more...I prefer Mac...and so on

But, if you are looking for price/performance index and great value you could look at Fujitsu-Simens

That's already mentioned: HP/Compaq and Toshiba are always good, depends which sort of laptop you are looking for
If you are buying:
Just look for great sale offers and don't buy brand new lines...

Dell-I'm on my third one. They have the best support of any others in my opinion. I've never had any problem with my desk tops or laptops.

Alienware.
Hands down.
If you think any different you don't know computers lol.
Alienware is like the Audi, Lexus, Caddy, Porshe ect of laptops/computers.

Its usually just used for gaming because of its HIIIIIGH memory space and like everything else, but its super fast for everything.
