You won't know how much fluid is actually going into your newborn. Basically, you just nurse every two hours (three is usually fine if the baby is still sleeping). Once milk is in (this takes 3-5 days postpartum), then you multiply the weight in pounds times 2.5. So if your baby weighs 7lbs. then she should be getting 17.5 oz per 24 hour period. It seems small, but their stomach is the size of their fist and it doesn't stretch like your stomach does.

Congrats first off! I have a 9 month old at home and he ate about 2-4 ounces every two hours, but he was on the heavier side. If you are breast feeding I know it's hard to tell how much your baby is getting, but about 2 ounces is about normal every two hours. Your baby will let you know when they are hungry.

There no such amount the baby should or shouldn't take. If you are feeding him/ her directly from your breast let them feed until they fall alseep, even then try to contiunue to wake them to see if they will eat more (newborns fall asleep while eating alot). If your bottling your breast milk I would start with giving him/her about 2oz. That will soon increase sometimes in a matter of days. By the time my son was 2 1/12 weeks he was eating 4oz of breastmilk from the bottle. Feed your baby until there full! There appitities change constantly.

Your newborn should empty both breasts which should be take about a half hour.."The older your baby gets the less she will nurse especially after you introduce food an juice....By breast feeding you are giving your baby everything that they will need and also if you are able to breastfeed for a year and you will save enough money to buy all new appliances for your kitchen!

You should breast feed your baby when he acts hungry. You will be able to tell if your baby is crying because he is hungry or for another reason. Your baby will usually want to eat every two to three hours when he is first born. Your baby does not need to be fed on a strict schedule because every baby is different. Your baby will need about eight to twelve feedings every 24 hours. If he sleeps for more than four hours at one time, wake him up to eat. Babies should breast feed for about 10 to 20 minutes or longer, on each breast. As your baby gets older, he will go longer between feedings. There may be times when he breast feeds more or less often than usual. Ask your caregiver for more information about breast feeding.

Are you pumping? If not, there's no way to tell how much they're actually getting. Whether formula feeding or breastfeeding, a newborn baby should eat until they are full. You will know this by watching to see if their sucking slows down or stops, or they'll turn their face away. Don't worry, babies know from birth when they're full. Just let him/her do the work!

if you are breastfeeding then until she stops nursing but if you are pumping then they usually eat around 2-4 oz every 1 to 2 hrs at the start but I know my boys loved breastmilk and would drink 6 oz at a time (when they switched to formula i was lucky if they took 2 oz). As long as your baby is hydrated and gaining weight that is really what matters. Breastfed babies you have no way other than their weight to make sure they are eating enough.

I agree with the person who said as much as she wants. I put my baby to the breast every 3 hours(as the nurse said I should) and once my spply was established I did it as needed.
I am so thankful to the nurse who MADE me do it every 3 hours even though the baby was asleep and didnt seem hungry because it really aided me in having my milk come in, and the baby only lost .04 oz of wt.

congratulations well everybody say that you have to give the baby 10 to 20 min each side but what i have learn is than babies are different and they have their on speed and time so i recommend to listen to the baby and trust your new mom skill and let everything flow natural.
PS. is this your fist baby? well if is so don't quit if it hurts your breast is gonna be sore for a couple of days but as long as you keep feeding the baby everything is gonna be right
