ANY SIZE BOAT CAN CROSS THE OCEAN, IT DEPENDS ON THE CAPTAIN AND HIS EXPERIENCE IN DEALING WITH THE SEA. REMEMBER THE COAST GUARD CONSIDERS ANYTHING UNDER A 65FT BOAT, SMALL CRAFT. YOU NEED AT LEAST 65FT AND MORE TO CROSS THE OCEAN, A SAIL OR ENOUGH FUEL, RATIONS TO SURVIVE THE ORDEAL, ELECTRONICS, AND KNOWLEDGE TO DEAL WITH EVERYTHING THAT COMES UP AND THEY WILL COME UP...

It doesn't matter regarding size if it is built well. Surge Teste sailed around the world on a 12 to 14 foot aluminum boat which he built to be bullet proof but very slow. My wife and I circumnavigated in a Cheoy Lee 31 and found the Atlantic no great shakes. Much smaller than the Pacific. Another sailer we know circumnavigated with a 28' Loren. Another in a 29' home built plywood/fiberglass laminate epoxy composite boat. Don't listen to the dock talk which says to sell your soul for every concievable luxury/eletronic doo dad. My motto is less boat and more money in the bank. Larry

It's got to be something big, because a small boat WOULD NOT do good in rough waves and swells in the Atlantic. I'd say perhaps 40 or 50 feet, but I'm estimating, so you should go to a boat dealer and see what they think....

Hope I helped! Good luck!

It's been done in a rowing boat several times, I believe the record time stands at around 67 days.
