Some researchers believe newborns can recognize their mothers almost immediately after birth but this is based primarily on voice recognition. True visual recognition probably takes a few weeks. "There is some evidence that babies can recognize voices and faces within weeks of birth," says Howard Reinstein, a pediatrician in Encino, California and a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics. Certainly by 6 months your baby will know exactly who you are even when you're not around. One study of 6-month-olds found they could recognize a picture of their mother when shown a variety of faces.
At first a baby's vision is quite blurry, and he can only see things about a foot away — the distance between his eyes and yours when you're feeding him. "By about 3 months you'll notice that your baby is able look directly at you and can even track an object that you move from side to side in front of him," says Reinstein. Around 4 months he'll start reaching for objects. Between 1 and 2 years, a child's vision sharpens with each passing month so that by his second birthday his vision will be nearly perfect, around 20/60; At age 8 a child with normal vision will see 20/20.

2 weeks old is a bit too early to really see signs of recognition. Pretty soon he'll begin to look toward you and mom when you speak to him, but don't get discouraged if he still seems like he's not noticing you. It takes a while before they can really see clearly anyway.
My baby is now 9 months old and she's just starting to get shy around strangers. For many months she could tell the difference between parents and strangers, but not until now has she started getting nervous when held by someone she doesn't know well. The best part is when he starts smiling when he hears your voice ;-)

The baby can definitely recognize mom and dad. My daughter recognized my mom's voice as well because my mom would always talk to her during my pregnancy! I don't know about strangers! Good luck and congrats!

He knows mom. Some times dad by voice. He might show a preference for mom other all else, but its not the same as when he's older and really understands the difference.
he knows when someone is not mom or dad, yes.

That baby could recognize Mom and Dads voice from day one and by now I wouldn't be too surprised if baby recognizes your face too.
