I carried my backpack around freshman year, because my locker was too far from my classes to go back between periods. So it depends on the layout of your building. I'd carry your backpack with you for the first couple of days until you get to know your way around, and then try going back to your locker between classes to get your books so you don't have to carry them all day.

Usually teachers will tell you what you need on the first day, so I'd just bring a notebook and jot down your supply list for each class, then go shopping after school.

The backpack thing depends on your school policy. Some schools, including mine, require you to keep your backpack in your locker during the day because of security reasons and as a measure to prevent crowded halls. So, ask your teacher the first day of school, or read the policy and see what it says. It's helpful to bring your backpack around school because you don't have to make frequent trips to your locker, but it can also be a pain in the neck if it's too heavy and bulky. And, if your books don't fit in the backpack, you can hold them.

As for the electives, you may need a binder for them. In cooking, you'll probably get safety guidelines, recipes, tips, etc. Business and technology seem to be more academic-reared courses, so you'll probably need a binder for those, too. I would suggest a 3/4-inch or 1-inch binder for those classes, because they are electives so you might not need a big binder. However, teachers have their own guidelines. Some are really picky and want certain materials in a certain format, and they will tell you want they want for the class on the first day.

Have fun on your first day! And don't get nervous...

If your school has lockers you need to buy one and then you can put all of your stuff there. Yeah if your books don't fit in your backpack just carry them in your hands. Usually teachers ask you to get a binder for each class, but don't do so as most of the time you don't even need one so i'll recommend using duatangs instead of binders. Good luck on your first day! ;)

Most of those questions are school specific or depend on what you prefer...

My high school had an entirely separate campus for freshmen and we were not allowed to carry backpacks. Using a locker was okay but you had to go to it a lot to get your books, and that got annoying.

When I was able to carry around a backpack, I chose to. I did not use my locker until senior year, but I still carried a backpack.

I used a binder for my business class because we had notebook checks.

And if your books dont fit in your backpack, you either have to put them in a locker or carry them...

actually its your choice if u want to hold ur backpack or not. u can just take the books u will need for the class and leave ur bag in the locker. but if ur going to a private school then i don't know about that. ya for mostly all subjects u will need a binder, maybe even for gym.
but again, all this depends on what ur school rules are.

your teachers will probably give you a long boring course outline of what you need. and honestly no one really cares what you do with your books. just do whatever you want how you want if you dont want to use a binder don't! (unless a teacher specifies they want things done a certain way) you're in highschool now and you're pretty much responsible for yourself no ones going to hold your hand and tell you exactly what to do anymore. don't stress. good luck

in canada we take our backpacks to every class. you can leave it in your locker if you prefer, though. and yes we hold our books in our hands when they dont fit in the backpack :). you will DEFINETELY need a binder for cooking....and yeah, probably business too.

actually in england we do have lockers from year 7, and its best if you keep the bag in your locker, because it can get really tiring just carying the heavy thing around, and yeah i'd get a binder if i were you it keeps you more organised and its best to be organised in highschool with all the work you get :)
